. . . Not that the US has ever been particularly concerned about international law except when it offers a convenient way of pursuing "national interest." Party to many treaties but not above some covert operations including outright assassinations. In my opinion the current administration has moved past being an unreliable ally, headed more into rogue territory. So it goes.

Whelp, there probably goes my chances of renewing my US visa. For someone who likes to shout "freedom" at the sun and moon Trump certainly does not like to be on the receiving end of criticism.

People coming into the country are subject to having their social media on their phones checked. People have been turned away from entry into the US if TSA didn't like what they saw. If I ever leave the country, I'll have to leave my cell phone at home.

"Trump Fires Every Member of US National Science Board" | Common Dreams

US President Donald Trump on Friday quietly fired every member of the independent board that governs the National Science Foundation, a move seen as an escalation of the administration's destructive war on science.

Members of the National Science Board (NSB) were notified in a brief email "on behalf of President Donald J. Trump" that their "position as a member of the National Science Board is terminated, effective immediately." One fired board member, chemist Willie May, told The New York Times that he was "disappointed" but not "entirely surprised," adding, "I have watched the systematic dismantling of the scientific advisory infrastructure of this government with growing alarm, and the National Science Board is simply the latest casualty."

Alondra Nelson, an academic who resigned from the NSB last May over concerns of political interference, wrote on social media that "history will not look kindly on this administration for many reasons, but the systematic silencing of independent expertise is particularly troubling."

Since the start of his second term, Trump and his deputies have assailed science across the federal government, including by eliminating the Environmental Protection Agency's scientific research arm and firing experts en masse.

Not well known fact- that stumble bum who lurched into the Hilton wasn't even on the floor where the festivities occurred. I'm marveling at the fact that people want to kill someone and go on the internet and announce their intentions. It's like John Wayne in those cheesy westerns where he does this big ol' windup before punching someone. I've seen less telegraphing of motive in bar room brawls.

It's a fact that right wing extremism has produced far more deadly violence in the US over the past few decades than any ideology except Islamic extremism. The Islamists were overachievers on 9/11 but if that is removed from the accounting then the right-wingers rise to the top.

Meanwhile the Trump administration is prioritizing three sources of terrorism in the US for scrutiny: Islamists, "narcoterrorists", and left-wing extremists (including antifascists). So it goes.

"Trump Counterterrorism Strategy Puts 'Anti-Fascists' on Par With ISIS, Al-Qaeda" | Common Dreams

The Trump administration on Wednesday released an official counterterrorism strategy that puts "anti-fascist" organizations on par with terrorist organizations such as Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

In outlining its strategy, the document argues that the US faces three "major type" of terrorist threats: "Legacy Islamiast Terrorists," such as al-Qaeda and ISIS; "Narcoterrorists" that sell illegal drugs; and "Violent Left-Wing Extremists, including Anarchists and Anti-Fascists."

When it comes to the purported domestic left-wing threats, the document says the administration will "prioritize the rapid identification and neutralization of violent secular political groups whose ideology is anti-American, radically pro-transgender, and anarchist."

"We will use all the tools constitutionally available to us to map them at home," the document adds, "identify their membership, map their ties to international organizations like Antifa, and use law enforcement tools to cripple them operationally before they can maim or kill the innocent."

The document makes no mention of the threat posed by members of right-wing groups such as the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, many of whom received pardons from President Donald Trump in 2025 for their role in violently storming the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

A report published last year by the Center for Strategic and International Studies found that, while left-wing political violence has grown since Trump's first election in 2016, it "remains much lower than historical levels of violence carried out by right-wing and jihadist attackers."
