Fun to watch from the outside though.

In the same way it's fun watching somebody have their teeth pulled out! It's indescribable!!!

Guilty on all 34 counts. Ignoring the comments from the convict himself, from his devotees predictably: a "dark day" and "politically motivated abuse of the justice system," etc. If the verdict had gone the other way rest assured a markedly different tune of "justice served!" and "complete vindication" would be in the air.

The man has been a sleazy, repulsive grifter his entire adult life yet his schtick has gained a devoted and strident following. Seems unlikely that a felony criminal conviction will change their minds.
"Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I hold in veneration — courage, clear thinking, honesty, fairness, and above all, love of the truth."
— H. L. Mencken

^ Sad, but true. Any of the rest of us would already be in the poky.

What's wrong with a bit of scandal?
Did Bob Dylan write:

"While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
And goodness hides behind its gates
But even the President of the United States
Sometimes must have to stand naked."

Attack Trump verdict or be exiled - a new test for Republicans

QuoteThere's a new front line in Donald Trump's battle to get elected.

Just minutes after he was found guilty on all 34 felony counts on Thursday, I heard from a person close to the former president who described this moment as a "civil war" within the Republican Party.

The historic nature of Trump's criminal conviction is being leveraged by his campaign as a sort of roll-call vote to see which politicians will defend the former president and which of them will defend America's legal system. It appears you can't do both.

Last night, a weather balloon was sent up.

Larry Hogan, a moderate Republican who is running for an open Senate seat in liberal-leaning Maryland, took to social media to urge all Americans to "respect the verdict and the legal process".

Within minutes, Chris LaCivita, a top official on Trump's campaign, posted a crystal-clear reply to Mr Hogan: "You just ended your campaign." The implication: if you're not with us on this, you're politically dead.

How will America survive the 2024 election? If Trump wins America is fucked. If Trump loses America is fucked. Is there a third way out of this?

It could become part of the British Empire again.

Lots of crazy stuff going on US politics. On the left, Trump is regarded to be an Adolph Hitler and on the right he is regarded to be the second coming of Jesus or (more recently) Nelson Mandela. It would require a miracle to restore normality. My fear is that the US is getting closer to a civil war.

If Trump would end-up behind bars then how likely would it be that a fringe group of his followers would try to break him out of jail?

The worst case is indeed a civil war. And the brain dead MAGAs ore armed to the teeth. Very worrying indeed. Fortunately my son lives in California so he'll get some notice of any serious trouble.
