Taught my mom how to play chess today. It was about time, she's 45. Easiest match ever.

[spoiler:2qyvojay]Also, I'm eating popcorn.  :pop:[/spoiler:2qyvojay]

Just wondering what people can do to counter the paranoia surrounding themselves when they're just average people capable of average stuff.  :raised:

(btw: viruses are good gene transporting mediums, there are reasons why some people would want to look into that. )

The awards ceremony for the student art exhibit at my university is an hour away. I'm so nervous!
Mulder: He put the whammy on him.
Scully: Please explain to me the scientific nature of "the whammy."

The Magic Pudding

I heard this 60ish woman describing her encounter with Astro Travelling in younger days.
The AT organizers had asked her to come along to take notes because she was a whizz with the shorthand back then, must of been pre tape recorders or video, but we all know such soulless devices can't be trusted to record the divine.  Anyway when the action started some guy claimed his mind was sitting on a lamp and he described the room from this vantage point.  Astounding isn't it, I bet you're reexamining your skepticism.  But the truly bizarre occurrence that would stick with her was yet to come, the piano started making a clanging noise and astro traveller boy started claiming he was trapped in the piano.  After such a scary experience she's stayed away from that AT stuff ever since.
I did ask her if she considered astro boy and the organizers were working together in some trick, she didn't want to consider such a thing, it would have shrunken her world I think.  I didn't ask her if she'd tested the keys of the piano or lifted the lid, or if she'd paid 50 cents to see Bob The Amazing she would have expected more.

Slightly less interesting than the above, but...dry roasted soybeans are murderously dry. Like eating the hulls of burnt popcorn from the bottom of the bag :S *choke*

I just watched an episode of The X-Files that I hadn't seen before that contained both a secluded village of creepy Amish-type people who forbid contact with the outside world, and also crop circles. I'm on to you, Shyamalan.

Sure!

This was my final project in my printmaking class last semester. It's a triptych that depicts the narrative of the legend of Pecos Bill, and each panel is 13x19 inches. It's a reduction linocut, which means you hand-carve a bit of the image out of a linoleum block, ink it up, and run it through the printing press to transfer onto paper, then carve a bit more out of the same block, ink it up, run it through the press, etc. Unfortunately this process destroys each stage on the linoleum block, so I can't ever reprint this series.

I won second place in the Fine Art: Printmaking category.

[spoiler:1pqwswza]Sorry for the awful cell-phone pics of this one.
[/spoiler:1pqwswza]

This one was an assignment with criteria â€" 1) We had to use this 4-compartment carrying box template, and 2) the product had to represent the four seasons. I created a fictional company that makes specialty preserves based on produce that is available during each season.

I won first place in the Graphic Design: Packaging category.  :D
