Tony Robinson, I find him a personable kinda chap.
He walks around talking about the history of places.
He's qualified to do so 'cause he was in Black Adder.
Anyway he's talking about an Oz 1850s rebellion.
"You've got French German Swedes
You've got veterans from the American Revolution"
Ha? They'd be kinda old wouldn't they?
1854-1783+15=86
The US civil war hasn't happened yet,
so he shouldn't have been thinking of that.
Could have been Wolverine and Captain Jack...
Take my advice, don't listen to me.

About half an hour ago I got an email alert for a purchase on my credit card - except I wasn't shopping. It was for an ecard site I'd never heard of. I called the credit card company, got the charge removed, reviewed all the recent charges, cancelled the card, and have a new one on the way. The process was painless. Thank the credit card company for email alerts!
Wish mine would do text alerts for purchases on my debit card, won't have a credit card oir any reason. A friend's bank alerts her to any "unusual" use - like they blocked the payment for a new laptop on a card she normally only uses for groceries, awaiting her telephone or online comfirmation. Caused a kerffufle at the store but it was that store's own brand of credit card! Hit by their own rules!

I normally pre-inform mine for unusual expenditures, just in case.

I do the same, and put a limit on what can be charged whilst traveling overseas, though I still prefer to use travelers checks rather than plastic when traveling.

Doris is on my mind at the moment.

Doris is a storm due to hit this area 8am ish tomorrow morning, winds of 50+ mph. Have laid the wheelie bins for rubbish and recycling down flat. They are immediately in front of my car and the wind eddy at the end of this terrace that usually sends them flying did do the other week. My car sports the scuffs down to the undercoat one of them caused as it bounced off!

Nice shiny wet look blue paint with sparkly bits is imposdible to repair except at great expence. I remember plain black cars with affection . .

I was going to describe the process of doing a decent do-it-yourself touch up including the use of rubbing compound, but I expect you already know it all too well.  ;)

It will never look completely proper, but can fool the casual eye pretty well.

Batten down the hatches and hope for the best. Good luck to you, Gloucester and to all our northern UK members.

In this case rubbing compound will nerely put a polish on the undercoat! OK, it will shine back up any surrounfing psint aa well.

Should have used "scratch " rather than "scuff".

Last car went 5 years without a mark, this one has three car park type minor (two corner scuffs and a door dint) injuries and one "bin type" in two years.

My credit card company has an online option to let them know you are going to be using your card out of the country. I've never had to use it, but it is nice to know it is there.

Bloody Doris is certainly blowing here.  A lot of garden furniture has been artistically redistributed around the place.

Are you naming windy days now?
That's quaint.

I think I'll just start claiming all extreme weather as evidence of anthropogenic climate change, fk confirmation bias.

Heavy storms have had names for a long time. Gives Joe Public a label to remember them by.

It's Carnival week, which means the city has emptied (this is the last extended holiday before winter) as thousands head to the coast to get a tan or go inland to visit their families. Less people = great!

This is me, I'm with you xSP: Less people = great

Whenever one of the national holidays rolls around like Labour or Memorial Day, and massive amounts of people head out to the lakes, coast, etc...I always prefer to stay home and enjoy the quiet and peace brought about by less people here in town.

Plus you don't have to deal with the heavy and congested traffic, the packed restaurants, all of the drunks out on the lakes in their boats.
Fuck that shit...number of years ago we we out at the lake during the 4th of July and I took a spill water-skiing when drunk-dad pulling one of his kids with a speed boat came within 10 feet of running me over with his boat, and ended up hitting our tow-rope. It got all tangled in his prop...the friend of mine who was driving our boat chased after him after picking me up.
We came across the guy trying to unravel our line from the prop, and we had to restrain my friend from beating the guy up. He was obviously intoxicated so we took his boat key.
He was the only adult in the boat with three young kids (No spotter for the kids he was pulling in the tube) and at first we considered calling out shore-patrol to arrest his ass, but instead one of us drove his boat back to his dock and escorted him ashore.

Yeah I prefer to stay home away from the crazies.

^ I am a boatman of long standing.  One of the most angering things in the boating life is some drunk ass bastard who jeopardizes the lives of the other people, sensible people, someone's loved ones people, who play on the water.  I have been known to carry a shotgun.....illegally, in my boat. I have never found the need to fire the Mossberg 500.  When the asshole jet skiers try to intimidate me in my small sailboat, I merely raise the gun to show it to them. They always decide to antagonize someone else. So far so good.
