Thanks. To say it hasn't been easy is an understatement. I get depressed, and I eat, then I get depressed for eating and I eat more...gah. So that I've gotten this far, and my partner is with me is awesomely epic. I hope noone will mind if I get a Weight loss tracker for my signature...I think it may be my biggest thing right now, aside from my healing, which I can't really measure.
Well I was going to suggest you start a weight loss thread but thought twice as losing weight can be cyclical. I was worried that if you went on a short upswing you'd not want to come here and that would be our loss. Your weight is irrelevant to your intellectual and social participation here and I for one would not like you to leave because you were embarrassed to come here if your weight went up again. Do what is right for you now and if that changes don't be afraid to change what you show or tell us. But whatever happens don't be afraid of people here being judgemental of your efforts.

If John did this, I'd be supportive, especially during his bad moments, 'cause we all have them in our own way, don't we?

I do the saaaaaame thing, buddy.  I'm losing weight as well, but I'm not brave enough to even post how much I weigh.  For me, I come from a chubby family and so I associate being a bigger person with being a part of my family, which makes losing weight mentally difficult sometimes.  I was raised with the mantra - there's nothing wrong with being bigger - and I 100% believe that, but I also know that my dad was a big guy and he died of heart disease when he was only 58.  My mom has diabetes.  And, I want to live long enough to spend time with my son as an adult, and maybe with his kids too (if he has any).  Plus, the social stigma of being fat sucks and I'm tired of dealing with it.  Though my weight loss goals are no where near what I've been told they "should" be and even if I lose all the weight I want to, I would still be considered fat by some people's standards.  I'm just too big right now to feel comfortable in my own skin.  So John, I'll support you 100% with this and I feel for you.  :D

I just escaped jury duty after sitting on a hard wooden bench listening to lawyers object to each others version of "beyond a reasonable doubt" for 3 hours while interviewing potential jurors.
During one of the small breaks we had I got a lecture from someone about why I should be more than happy to serve on a jury, that I should consider it a privilege and honor.  Not that I'm against jury duty or anything but it's a really bad week for me to spend 4+ days on a case where the lawyers are already arguing before the trial starts.  I have too many other things on my mind that would distract me too much from the case at hand.  She on the other hand was the very first one called up for seating.
Luckily I was dismissed because I had a problem with the wording of the law when it came to the type of 'proof' the state was allowed to present as evidence in a DUI/DWI.

I don't know, man, the kind of people who WANT to be on a jury don't strike me as the kind of people who really SHOULD be on a jury.  Does that make sense?  Glad you got out of it though.  Jury duty sucks and the ridiculously tiny amount of compensation they give out for the inconvenience of having to miss work is more a slap in the face than anything.

I'm not afraid to say I'm overweight, heck I'm at 193lbs as of the last doc visit, and my BP is lower than it has been in the last few years at lower weights.  I eat when I'm bored, upset, depressed.....  I love food, especially Lays Wavy Chips with sour cream dip.  If I go by all those insurance/health guidelines I would not look normal at the 'correct' weight for my height.  Most of my weight is on my thighs, believe it or not it's mostly muscle because I have a condition that requires my muscles to have to hold my legs at the proper outward facing position (EXTREME pigeon toed) it requires a ton of force to walk normal.  When my legs muscles get tired I literally start tripping over my own feet and have broken a few bones that way.  The rest of the weight I admit is all my fault.  I like to eat.  I am active.  I'm fairly strong according to those who have actually seen me working, stronger than a good majority of women my age.  As long as it's not hot or sunny out (due to meds) I can keep up with most anyone.  I used to go out to a ranch with my survey crew and run circles around them out in the brush and hills, they were 'fit'.
I still need to lose around 40lbs to feel better though the doc would prefer that damn chart crap closer to 70lbs.

Hey I got paid $10 in cash, not a check!!  Better than the last jury duty call, had to wait 6 weeks for a $12 check my bank refused to accept.

I agree on those who want to be on a jury, they usually strike me as really odd, and this woman was the really stuff shirt type.

I regard jury duty as a duty and an honor of citizenship.

I was called once, but never even got to the voir dire stage; after two days of catching up on my reading, I was sent home.

The one time I was called for jury duty, I never even had to show.  The trial was the week of my final exams for graduate school, so I was excused for undue hardship.  All I did was fill out the initial paper work and that was that.

I actually broke down and bought a pressure canner/cooker today.....  It's sitting in the living room.  I read the instructions, is has a safety plug for high pressure issues.

I'm still terrified of it.
Yet I have enough jars to can half the meat in the freezer (to make room for other things) plus a bunch of veggies and other things that need to be pressure canned.
I can can all this stuff and not have to worry about power loss affecting my food supply.

I was reading online about how to can stuff a while back and the whole process just scares me...aside from the jar exploding concern there is also the didn't get a good seal and give everyone food poisoning concern...so I gave up on trying till I have someone who can teach me in person.  I guess my grandmother must have hated canning because that wasn't something we ever did together...thankfully I know my dad knows how to can because he cans his salsa; so I'll get him to teach me.  It still seems scary though.

Water bath canning is really easy and simple for acidic foods, quick too.  That's what I've done the most of and I have had a couple of jars pop/explode once in the water but it's seriously no big deal, just messy
