The next door neighbor has been power washing for 2 hours now.  I'm really tempted to call the cops, since I suspect his washer is at or above the 85 dBA maximum allowed in the area.  It sucks being on a daytime sleeping schedule, as there's often no noise ordinances for that time, but some people work 2nd or 3rd shift and sleep during the day (or try to, anyway).

Veggies and eggs.....................

Just boiled off 4.5 dozen eggs, peeled and tossed in big jar for pickling.  Spent this morning pulling beets, cleaning and prepping for roasting.... will pickle them later, have all the onions that bolted pulled, trimmed, washed and waiting for me to hack them up and make a massive batch of onion soup.  The black eyed peas and green beans are calling to be prepped and frozen.  Had to fight off the mocking bird again this morning.... he's pecking my tomatoes.  Looks like the potatoes are about ready, will dig up a test batch later today, if they are ready..... another big massive batch of soup, potato soup.....

Crap, I hope I have room in the freezer.............

If I tried to sleep with earplugs in, it would be the plugs keeping me awake instead of the noise.  I have a hard time sleeping with stuff on or in my face.  Except a pillow.  I loves me some fluffy wuffy pillow.

The ground around my house is thoroughly black with mulberries. Seriously, if they weren't all trodden on and gross, you could scoop them up with a snow shovel. If I had a large bucket and a tall ladder, perhaps by now I would have baked a pie.

I'm out of mulberry vinegar, dang I'd so like to come over there and borrow about a 5 gallon bucket of those berries.  That's the only tree I haven't planted here yet

Come on up! You could fill a lot of those buckets.

You may be surprised. I have used soft foam ear plugs sometimes in noisy hotels. I have travelled a lot and you can't be sure what you'll find sometimes. You don't just push them into your ear. You roll them between your fingers until 3/4 of the length is about the diameter of a matchstick. You then pop them into your ear and they slowly expand and in a minute they form a seal in the ear canal. A minute or so after you've put them in you won't notice they are there. Try it and see.

I would think that the net saving on food would be quite considerable with the sort of volumes you're talking about. Does the term 'allotment', in the context of a small plot of land used for growing food, mean anything in the US?

Yeah yeah, I know.  The thing about a machine that loud though is you can feel the noise just as much as you can hear it.  Sadly, I'm so destitute and broke right now I can't even afford a cheap set of earplugs.

I'm actually pretty sure I will never be able to cash in on it, thanks to massive budget cuts in education where I live, and my newly founded hatred of academia.  I'm in career purgatory-with an MA, I'm over qualified for just as many things as I'm under qualified for.  The job situation is looking pretty bleak.
