I'm in career purgatory-with an MA, I'm over qualified for just as many things as I'm under qualified for.  The job situation is looking pretty bleak.

I know that feeling. That's why I'm doing my degree. It's really just a door opener (although I am learning a lot) at 50 one is considered 'past one's sell by date' in most areas of IT. But there is one area where age and experience count and that's requirement analysis, deciphering what the client wants and writing it down in a way both the client and programmer can understand. I'm looking forward to doing that in 2011/12.

Do you have a resume? Why not post it here (suitably anonomised) in it's own thread and let us help you consider how it could be made effective in different business areas? I find writing my own CV very difficult because I'm naturally very self deprecating (although that may not come across here   ). Give it a go and see what happens.

Why not? Employment is critical to survival. An atheist network would be a good thing surely? Community activity is one of the cornerstones of religions, atheists are not immune to the needs of community, far from it, hence places like this. There is a guy near me who is starting an atheist 'church' on a Sunday, once a month, purely to promote a sense of community in atheists in my area. I think I will be going to the next one.

I would think that the net saving on food would be quite considerable with the sort of volumes you're talking about. Does the term 'allotment', in the context of a small plot of land used for growing food, mean anything in the US?

If it doesn't rain here soon though, the cost of water will negate a bunch of that savings  :|

That would be ridiculous. They should only really care if you're selling or giving it out to the public for free. Not like killing your own chicken and having some friends over to eat it, but like going out in public and offering it to everyone. That would require too many people hired into doing something they shouldn't have their noses in, in the first place.

It would require too many people, yes.  But there is already a 'voluntary' registration of livestock program in place now.  When I bought chicks this year I had to give them my address, phone, etc.  A ton of people are freaking out over it since it's more government control, but I do think too much is being read into it.  Though it is distrubing if you think about how strict they could get with us family farms.

I'm still thinking I'll get surveys/inspected by the local ag dept one of these days since I do sell show pet quality chicks, along with the occasional live rooster for dinner (I only butcher my own)

Hmmm... allotment?  Apparently doesn't mean anything since I'm not familiar with it, though there are rumblings of having the FDA and the USDA start cracking down on those of us who grow our on vegetation and meat animals.  

In the UK some farm land was set aside as individual family 'allotments' normally a corner of a field near the farm house. These allotments could be bought or sold. My daughter is moving into a house right nest to a set of allotments and has put here name down for the next one that becomes vacant so she can grow her own food. She would love a big garden where she could grow this stuff.

On top of the interview, I got 3 responses (so far) from an ad I posted yesterday on craigslist advertising my services as a childcare provider.  When it rains, it pours.

Nothing like that out here to my knowledge.  If you buy it inside city limits and the city doesn't strictly forbid a garden in it's ordinances, you can put one in.  If you buy it outside the city limits you can pretty much do whatever.

Hey Soph!  Yeah, it's been awhile... I had to buckle down and graduate from my med transcription course before I had as many extensions equal to the number of months in the course or the hubby was going to have a coronary.  I got 'er done  :eek:
