I also have little interest in some of the late model bikes. I certainly admire the exceptional progress that has been made with almost all facets of construction and engineering of the modern bikes. However, the first picture, of the red one, shows a butt ugly beast that looks like it might weigh as much as a Harley.  Looks like a damned truck. Holy shit....look at the size of the front brake disk on the orange colored one. Big enough to stop a freight train it appears.

I have recently gotten up the courage to work on the TR5T that is cluttering my garage workshop. Removing the damned cosmoline gunk from the little beast has proven to be a real chore. In fact I have pretty much lost interest in the prospect of restoring it. Age has caused my enthusiasm to wane. In fact I think that I may opt to sell it to someone with more ambition than I have

It is nearly pristine. The odometer reads 3504.  Except for the exhaust pipes and mufflers it is all there and not at all beat up.  What would you suggest a realistic selling price might be?

#676
the TR5Ts are cult machines and worth a lot of money. yours with so few miles is especially valuable. it all depends on who wants it, but i dont think a price at US$5000 or above is unreasonable at all for a complete low-mileage bike.

are the frame and motor numbers matching? thats a big plus. also, if it runs at all you can increase its attraction.

a quick search shows some recent offerings on another forum i visit:

Thanks for the information Billy. I will take some pictures and send them in a few days.

Did anyone see the John Force crash? Amazing that he's alive, but he's in the ICU last I saw.

Icarus

The crash video is one the internet. It is a really ugly deal.

Dark Lightning

He's in the ICU. Not a good sign. He fared better many years ago when the front half of his car broke off. Seeing his legs dangling out while his car was doing all kinds of gyrations was heart-stopping. I know people involved in less spectacular crashes who weren't so lucky.

Went to Anglesea, a connected island, on the North West coast of Wales. Visited the transport museum, not big but some lovely exhibits.

Glory be! I could get my jollies in a place like that.  The first picture has a genuine Norton Manx the likes of which was raced on the Island by heroes such as Geoff Duke and  Hailwood.

I thought some here would like these :)

did hailwood run a manx?

i am hazy on his teams, but i remember him killing it at the TT on the horrible honda six-cylinder 250s.

no one will ever forget his comeback there as an old, old man in his late 30s. everyone was horrified that he would risk his grand old master status and race against the young bloods, when he was so clearly out of his prime.

and then he tore them all to bits, old and worn out as he was.

a masterful event.

Race riders at the IOM have been progressively crazy.  The Norton might have reached 100 MPH which was near suicidal at best. Now the modern multis reach 160...180 mpph and that is crazy in exponential terms.

If I remember my physics, impact force is equivalent to mass times velocity squared over two. .........147 ft/sec squared compared to 264 squared means that modern riders will be killed more than three times deader than the old timers would have been. I am not too sure that modern tires have three times as much cornering traction as those old Avons did.

billy rubin

theres always one or two riders killed at the isle of man.

every year.

if i could do it, i would still run the TT, every time i could qualify.

i would rather be ashes than dust.

what does it mean to be alive?

and is prolonging a shallow and unchallenged life the equal of one shorter but more intensely-lived?

everybody chooses their own balance point.

My concern with that kind of a challenge is failing to die in a blaze of glory and leaving an inert hulk behind that is fed with a tube and has to have someone wipe their ass until they finally actually croak.

I have specific instructions in my paperwork to cover this. My mother-in-law was in a care facility and had a stroke. Paralyzed on the right side and basically unconscious. They managed to feed her and wipe her ass for almost two years before she finally succumbed. What the hell kind of "life" is that? Never mind the expense, for someone who is never coming back. If I am in that position, there are instructions to not feed me.
