anyway in sword and shield you are scored on legal hits. he was up against an old fart who knew what he was doing, so he lost out on points

when the two handed sword came up he was exhausted and Sir Six Foot Four dumped him twice

its pretty aerobic. the suit weighs thirty pounds, of which twenty is the helmet. would be more if he would wear a breastplate and plackert. there's nothing on the back except the plates in the gambuson.

actual helmets from the old days were lots lighter than the stuff people use today. they didnt understand brain injuries back then, and considered head wounds no more serious than thjose to the limbs. what people wear now is lots tougher than the henry the fourth stuff

easy to miss. thewhole thi g is difficult. you are not allowed to use tbe point, even thlugh the tips are blunt, and lethal points like arteriez or unprotected limb joints are also off limits. so standard fencing is not helpful.ood people use parries and shield to waed off overhand whacks and then tapthe target spots when theres an opening.

its less sword and more hammer. if i were doing this i would specialize in axe rather than sword.

on spotting tbe throw coming, im amazed any body can spot anything. visio  is limited



but good martial arts people do well when grappli g and punching are permitted

What's the actual rule set? I've looked into HEMA competition but this seems very different.

I've got to make some changes at work. They are very big on providing everything. All tools, all equipment, all gear. The problem is that my department doesn't get tools that are usable, much less sufficient. Some things don't seem to be provided at all, unless you work in the other shop.

They send me to fix an electrical problem, but don't have a meter for me and all the test lights are burned out. So I grab my meter from the truck and figure out what the problem is. Grab some cutters to fix the broken wire and... They won't cut. So I get my cutters out.

Then they give me strippers that won't strip and the cheapest connector possible. Oh, and their crimpers won't make a proper crimp. I could walk next door every five minutes and borrow tools one at a time but it's very frustrating. Even the crescent wrenches are so beat up that they don't adjust properly.

I get antsy if I'm too far away from a decent crescent wrench.

So I'll either have to bring a box of my own or get a damn order in for stuff that works.

dunno. let me find out which sanctioning organization theyre using. its not SCA, although lots of people are dual members. this group is strictly competition

this meet was mostly just social. they didnt enforce rules strictly and it wasnt part of a sanctioned series. practice mostly

Their other mechanic is a bit... Odd. One of our more expensive pieces of equipment was leaking. He brought me over to check the hydraulic system. It was coolant. Like, a big green puddle under the machine. We got the radiator back today. I had to borrow a pressure test kit from the shop next door...
