So, I found myself in the cute animals corner of Youtube and this appeared on my recommended videos list:

Title of the video: Koala Gets Kicked Out Of Tree and Cries!

:notsure: I'd bet almost nobody here knows what a crying koala sounds like!

(Poor little koala...)

I don't speak koalan, but that sounds and looks more like a temper tantrum.

I could be wrong... :notsure:
Let's ask the experts: BN and BPII.

We (me) who are not Aussies have mostly believed that Koalas are precious and cuddly little creatures.  We did not know that some of them are bullies.

Whatchu talkin' 'bout?! Them drop bears are dangerous!.  FWIW, I've also seen where they'll tear you a new one if you mess with them.  ;D

I agree! I have watched Ewoks: the battle for Endor and man, are those koalas fearsome! :worried:

I walked a few blocks today wearing my homemade face mask to go to the bank and supermarket, just after noon when the sun high and the heat was at its most intense. It was the first time I went outside with my mask. I knew more or less what to expect -- I frequently use face masks in the air-conditioned lab -- but outside it's a whole different experience.

Damn hot breathing trapped hot air under the scorching sun.

By the time I got to the supermarket my hair was matted against my sweaty forehead (I had given up trying to remove the stray locks with my shoulder) and all I could hear was myself breathing inside that god awful mask. I wondered if it sounded like that to the people around me. There was a pebble in my shoe which really added to the grumpy mood.

I must have looked like a feverish zombie myself, sweaty and half-limping my way through the aisles, picking up groceries and tossing them into my cart while sounding like freaking Darth Vader.

Needless to say some people looked a little frightened and made way for me when I got too close. :blue tear:

Well, that's a good way to keep people at their social distance from you, if not farther :P

Recusant

Is it considered bad form in Brazil to take one's shoe off and dislodge a troublesome pebble, or did you not notice it until you'd got inside the market?

I can understand not taking off a shoe in a supermarket. Perhaps it was too much trouble to suspend the shopping and step outside.  :thoughtful:

If you consider these questions impertinent, xSilverPhinx, it's your own doing. You gave such a vivid description of your adventure, I found myself visualizing the situation and giving it due consideration.  :smilenod:

Next time I am in Australia I will carefully avoid Drop bears.  I had always assumed that they were cuddly little critters who eat tree leaves.

Heh,  not impertinent. ;D I understand, pebbles have a way of wedging themselves in our minds as well when they're in our shoe. :P If the pebble also wedged itself into your mind, I consider my recounting a job well done. :smug:

It isn't bad form taking your shoe off to remove a pebble while outside, but I don't think it is adequate in a supermarket. I've never seen any adult remove their shoe in that setting, so I didn't. Worst thing is, there isn't an aisle, corner or bathroom stall inside one could hide in to quickly remove the damn thing.

So I quietly suffered the pebble's existence until I left the premises. Quietly breathing like I was dying, that is.

I'm pretty sure I've paused more than once to eject a pebble in an inappropriate setting, but then that's the sort of thing a barbarian would do.  :(

A barbarian would be more severe, possibly eliminate, or even eradicate said offender.

:notsure: I'm thinking you're wise to eject the pebble even in inappropriate settings, Recusant. Suffering a pebble because of social etiquette is just about as dumb as one can get. ;D

Next time I'm going to feign dementia and just remove it.

Planning my work day at 2 AM. There is this establishing new network project I've been trying and failing to do for months now. Low service availability area and what have you. But, as Samuel Beckett put it;

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

...And so I shall.
