Is getting old rubbish?

I have noticed a lot of my friends that are around the same age as me are all starting to fall apart, hernias, fucked up knees and legs, IBS, back problems, among other things. I have yet to experience any of this and each time I see them I'm reminded I'm probably the next one to get all this and it looks rubbish. Granted non of my friends actually look after themselves and I do.

I was fine until I hit 30, even ran a marathon when I was 30. Now 4 years later I've had so many hospital episodes it's unbelievable.  Nothing chronic thankfully and on a day to day basis I'm fit and well but could do without any more crises.

Well, that certainly helps.  It's all maintenance, genes and good luck, I think, how fast and how badly you age.  I haven't taken care of myself at all, yet I've only recently started to suffer the effects from it and that's mostly limited to bad knees.  It's annoying and inconvenient but nothing like what many other people go thru as they age, and often while younger than myself.

But yeah, once things start falling apart you really learn to appreciate that corny saying that old age is not for sissies.  The thing of it is tho, you can't assume you're next because your friends are falling apart piece by piece.  You might be, but on the other hand you might be like the 90-yr old woman who lives on my block and goes jogging everyday.

She has been notable by her absence here and on fb. I have messaged her on fb and not had a response. I assume she's busy.

Last I spoke to her she did seem quite stressed. A lot of school and work related issues.
I guess she will poke back in once the dust settles.

Yes Crow, getting old does suck. I walk like a nursing home inmate when I first get up in the morning. This morning it was an effort to even get up due to day three of a headache that traveled to my neck. It's an uphill battle to keep all the parts in working order... and I'm not even thirty yet...

You're "not even thirty yet"! What on earth have you been doing?

Given my family history, I knew that I was going to wind up with high blood pressure and osteoarthritis. All the women on my mother's side of the family get it in their late 40's to early 50's regardless of weight or amount of exercise they get. Luckily, we all respond well to treatment and usually have no issues as long as we take our medication and refrain from smoking. My aunt and my grandmother both had heart attacks, but they smoked. None of the women who refrained from smoking have had other heart issues. I worry for my sister because she smokes and is not good about taking her medication.

Osteoarthritis usually waits until they hit 60 or so, but given my weight, it is not a surprise I started showing signs of it earlier. My autoimmune joint issues came out of left field.

Hard living, untreated injuries, and a deep seated hatred of going to the doctor. I've had metal dug out of my eyes while being held down on a workbench, broken bones and waited weeks to see anybody about it if I go at all, etc. That's probably a good part of the reason I'm going blind and have so much joint trouble. That and a family history of RA.

I can't decide if my joints are going bad or if it's just work. The company requires us to stand but gives us goddamn sitting desks. My right shoulder pretty much always burns. There is absolutely no posturally correct position I can maintain... It's just a trade off throughout the day of whether you want to be hurting your back or your shoulders or your wrists. This can't be legal.

I think it's work.  That definitely can't be legal.
