First attempt. A little wonky  ;D

Looking good for a first attempt!

Did you add your proposed steel tubing inside? The assembly will be less wobbly without it if the holes in the wooden dowels are only a fraction of a mm bigger than the diameter of the bolt.

There is a brass tube liner which fits perfectly. My problem is getting the hole central in the dowel. Any suggestions?

If I were your neighbor, you could use mine to bore the holes in your dowels. Does your wife (or you) sew? You could plunder come spools.

If you have a disc sander you can make it nicely rounded.  Use a bolt for an axle, preferably clamped in a vise. Touch the outer part lightly with the spinning sander disc. Allow the the wooden part turn. Make lots of sawdust. That is a method I have used a number of times.

Or clamp the bolt in the chuck of a rapidly spinning drill in a stand, using course sandpaper to sand down a larger than needed dowel.

No. But I could have a look around the craft shops.

Now that's something a can try!

The dowel is the size I want. But I do have some larger diameter stuff laying about. I can have a go at that.

Post something to crack a long dry spell?  If Florida is threatened by a Hurricane I will board up my windows. I might show you my elegant board up job. Meanwhile we will have to make do with this imgur thing.

Have you made any progress?

On my side I have bought some RTV silicone moulding rubber to make moulds for concrete candle sticks. They will be for those small tea candles. I love working with RTV rubber. Here is a photorealistic render of my design in Rhino 3D, which is a powerful design tool:

Each one is 70mm high. I will use natural and tinted concrete.

After many weeks of low energy caused by my shingles episode, I now feel like sculpting again. I have started painting again as well.
