Spent a holiday with an English friend working in France.

She was an excellent cook but seemed determined to test me - serving horse steaks, snails, frogs' legs, whitebait and every other "non-English"  dish she could think of. Missed out whale though . . .

Most survival manuals recommend roasting bugs a bit before eating if you are able.

I can attest it does improve the flavor.

Always amuses me when people relish shrimps and prawns but cringe at the thought of roast locusts or termites etc!

I know! It's just one of those cultural things that most people can't get over, including me, which is weird considering they're really nutritious. I think I would be brave enough to eat a bug only if it was dry and didn't look like a bug. If there was such a thing as 'bug flour' avaliable I might give it a try. Not bug paste, though. That just reminds me of squashed bug innards.

I'm sure my Apache or Aztec ancestors ate some bugs here and there. I'm at a big disconnect with them because of Europeans and stuff so I don't really get the appeal of bugs that aren't from the ocean. I mean I eat menudo which has stomach lining and when people see it or I tell them what's in it they flee.
