The debate in Norway regarding ritual circumsition has been rekindled after a two week old boy died from complications after being circumcised in a medical office in Oslo.
The child died of complications two days after being circumcised last sunday (6th of may). The case is being investigated by medical authorities and the police.

There has been debate before regarding the legality of circusition of infant boys, but nothing has so far come of it. The Department of Health is considering changes to the law to impose stricter regulation on the procedure, but there is disagreement within the government on how to handle this.
Both the Doctor's assosiation, the Nurse's assosiation, The Ombudsman for Children, The Human-Ethic Society and the Medical faculty of Oslo University have advocated for a prohibition of child circumsition.

Personally I am of the opinion that there should be an age limit to circumsition the same way there is an age limit to other elective surgical procedures. At the minimum such procedures should not be performed until the owner of the appendage in question is old enough to provide informed concent.

I agree with the quoted part.

The argument for it being necessary for health reasons doesn't exactly hold up with a dead infant. This is really sad although I can't read the link and google translater will simply butcher the translation.

As I see it, ritual or other medically unnecessary infant circumcision is child abuse and the parents of this particular kid deserve to be charged with abuse followed by death in my book...

Why can't we just make the whole thing illegal and jews, talk to the hand?!  >:( 2000 abused kids per year is 2000 too many.

I agree whole heartedly.
I seriously dont understand how this ritual isnt outlawed. This story really freaking enrages me. What kind of parent would do such a thing to their infant son??

I never really understood just how horrific circumcising is until I saw a video of it being done. People who are proponents of it are like "oh, it's no big deal", but, seeing a tiny infant being held down and part of his genitals being cut off - complete with blood, screaming and a very-raw looking aftermath. It was really shocking. It made me cry. I know it's a sensitive subject for some people, because it does tie in to some very deep traditions, but I can't help but think it's just horrible. I would never do something like that to my boy unless there was an absolute medical necessity.

I'm pretty indifferent on the issue, the argument seems overly emotional, anaesthetic is used so perhaps the babies suffering is overplayed.

I don't hear circumcised males complaining in real life.  I've known a few who have expressed gladness that they were.  The linked article seems balanced to me, it pre dates papilloma vaccination though.

We need to be a great deal tougher about practices like male and especially female circumcision, and ritual slaughter of meat animals.

Godwin's Law!

I am kind of on the fence about circumcision. I do think that I should not be done until the owner of the member is old enough to consent. In my mother's line of work as a home nurse, most of the patients she takes care of are older folks. She tells me that almost every uncircumcised pecker was disgusting and infected, while the circumcised pecker was easier for the older folks to keep clean. I don't know if it was because they were never taught to clean down there, or it was because they are harder to clean.

It is pretty cruel to do to a little baby. Poor hygiene probably leads to more infections that otherwise, but probably not anymore than females would experience.

So glad its not just me that completely disagrees with this practice, I have never seen a male circumcision and do not want to, though sadly I have seen a female circumcision on a documentary and that seriously disturbed me more than I could have imagined. There are times when it is a medical necessity and I am fine with that but as long as the male washes their cock properly they shouldn't have any problems, maybe Yahweh should have told Abraham about soap, water and general hygiene.
