So glad its not just me that completely disagrees with this practice, I have never seen a male circumcision and do not want to, though sadly I have seen a female circumcision on a documentary and that seriously disturbed me more than I could have imagined. There are times when it is a medical necessity and I am fine with that but as long as the male washes their cock properly they shouldn't have any problems, maybe Yahweh should have told Abraham about soap, water and general hygiene.

Yeah. See how hard it is to get a boy to rub his weiner in the shower....  ;)

Apparently the big problem is with ritual, as opposed to medical, circumcisions for reasons that certainly never occurred to me:  2-week old dies of complications from herpes after circumcision:

QuoteIn 2004, city health officials revealed that a baby boy died after a circumcision carried out by a Rockland County rabbi who specializes in the centuries-old, ultra-Orthodox ritual known as metzizah b' peh.

Under the practice, the rabbi or mohel removes blood from the wound with his mouth — a practice city health officials have criticized, saying it carried "inherent risks" for babies.

I haven't heard of cases of babies dying from medical circumcisions (not saying it doesn't happen, just not that big a risk), tho I've seen a number of articles about doctors accidently removing the penis rather than just the foreskin.

I read a fascinating memoir once by a man this had happened to -- under the doctor's advice, his parents had all his male genitalia removed and raised him as a girl, giving him shots (explained as vitamins, I believe) to keep his features girlish but he never "felt" like a girl and eventually discovered the truth. Needless to say, he immediately stopped taking the injections, adopted a male name and eventually married.

I've never understood the problem of keeping an uncircumcised penis clean -- is it really that hard, physically or psychologically, to do for a baby or to teach a little boy to do for himself?

I don't hear circumcised males complaining in real life.  I've known a few who have expressed gladness that they were.  The linked article seems balanced to me, it pre dates papilloma vaccination though.

You know me through this forum. I have bitched about having my penis mutilated without my consent many times on this forum and in real life.
