The Magic Pudding

Quote from: "KDbeads"Pressure canning still scares me.  It's the canner itself that has me terrified
I'm not familiar with canners.
Is explosive release of boiling liquid the problem?
If so a full plastic face screen and covered skin may help.

KDbeads

For me, having had one explode while I was around at my grandmothers one day (think I was 7 or 8) and seeing the jagged pieces of metal pot in the ceiling left a wonderful impression on me.  Today they are so much more safe, this one has 2 emergency release spots in addition to the main steam vent.

I also have a piece of plywood handy for placing between me and the canner when I need to adjust the heat.

So everyone knows the difference:
Water bath canner, open, no pressure build up http://www.amazon.com/Granite-2-Quart-P ... B0001UZL8A
I have 2 of these, and you can do the same in a nice big stock pot if you have a large enough cake rack or the like to put in the bottom to keep the jars off the pot floor, so technically I have 5 total and the all get used at some point or other

pressure canner, closed, pressure build up http://www.amazon.com/Presto-16-Quart-A ... t_edpp_url
That one is very similar to the one I picked up.

For those who don't like clicking blind links, it's a list of supposed facts and statistics about atheists.  Read on for some lulz.

Hahaha.  I posted this on my blog (with a nod to you) and added a few more in the comments, just for fun -

Haha, when I first started reading it, I was kind of mad and part of me wanted to go line by line and refute it, but then I kept reading and just thought it was hilarious. I feel like adding to it - did you know atheists emit gases that are harmful to the environment? That's right - atheists are responsible for over 90% of pollution on the planet. We also cause crops to fail and scribble in library books. It's a FACT.

I was thinking of doing the line by line refute myself, but decided it's just not worth it.  I'm currently reading the half a dozen or so responses this post garnered.  Oy.

There is one thing I never understand and it's this - if you truly, truly believe that you are going to spend eternity in Paradise after you depart this world, then why would you care one jot if others don't agree?

I have almost finished ripping up the old floor in the kitchen. I now have two blisters, one small burn and a patch of skin missing off a knuckle, but now the worst is over, I hope

Two layers of vinyl stuck down tiles (hence the blisters and burns from the stripper) and then the 1/4" layer of plywood screwed down on the original floor to create and flat surface, a lot of the screws had rusted hence the slipping screw driver and consequent skinned knuckles. May well be able to do a wood effect floor this time which would be better as I would not need to relay the plywood again. I quite enjoy DIY once I get going, I have a high static inertia when it comes to that sort of thing but once I get going it gets done. I knew a chap who was sod for starting things but not finishing them. His wife got his attention and her own back by, how shall I put this, getting him all excited and then leaving him to finish  :)

If you're getting rid of the vinyl and plywood, did you really have to separate the two?
You'd have to find the screw holes, which may be in a predictable pattern, then stanley knife the vinyl along the joins in the plywood.

Unfortunately the myriad screws were dotted about rather erratically, in addition about 1/3 had rusted to the point where the pozidrive pit sheered when I tried to get them out. Fortunatly the plywood was only 3mm thick so I jammed a spade under it and ripped it up. I then took a screw driver to the screw heads that were ok and a mole wrench to the remainder. But the floor is now ready to be recovered so it's off to B&Q to choose something.  :verysad:
