My new coworkers baffle me.  My department is really small-right now, there are 4 people (including myself), plus our boss makes 5 total.

All of my coworkers minus boss go to the same church.  So they're all Christian.  And yet I'm noticing they seem to be kind of..well, not Christian.  They curse and swear ALL THE TIME, which is fine by me, but seems kind of out of context.  There are a lot of Jesus Christs and Christ Almightys being thrown around after phone calls with difficult clients, in addition to referring to said clients as motherfuckers, assholes, etc...  They also really play into a lot of the negative stereotypes associated with certain ethnicities, which also seems decidedly unchristian.  I just find it kind of ironic.  My one coworker was teasing me that I shouldn't take the Lord's name in vain, and I told him I was atheist and he seemed really taken aback.  Later, when they were discussing their church, just to be friendly I asked where they all went and they wouldn't tell me, like they thought I would show up and torch it or something.  They're not unfriendly towards me at all, but I get the feeling my relationship with these people will be strictly business.  Which is probably for the best, as the last time I became close with a coworker at a job it just blew up in my face.

Lucky you, mang! My dean belongs to a very Jewish-like christian sect who makes it a point that everytime I go to his office, he tells me that he was once an atheist like me and that I should make peace with jesus. My department chair, on the other hand, who is the adviser of a student org called bible readers society, once called me a satanist for protesting against the use of our monthly dues on purchasing bibles. Yea, they can be very welcoming and encouraging.

Hey Soph!  Yeah, it's been awhile... I had to buckle down and graduate from my med transcription course before I had as many extensions equal to the number of months in the course or the hubby was going to have a coronary.  I got 'er done  :eek:

So, I know where I am going to live now! I have yet to sign the contract (and move in of course), so the next step now is to buy lots of stuff I'll need.

Whoo hoo!!!  The peaches are starting to get ripe!!!  4 peach trees, 1 tree getting ready to start dropping any day now, the one about 10 feet from it will be ready in another couple of weeks, then the last 2 will be ready in about 6 weeks (different variety of hybrid clingstone, slow maturing).....

Can we say time for peach butter?????  Looks like I'll be processing a few pints every day for the next little bit........  I think I'm going to have to figure out what else I can do with whole peaches... chutney maybe....

I must say Texas would not have been high on my list of states to visit in the States, I would have been more likely to have gone to New England. However that has rather changed now and if I do get across the pond again I will try and make it to 'The Lone Star State'.
