OK, I'm really sorry if this turns out really heavy handed, and me only being here a few days, I don't know why I'm posting this, but, its on my mind.

Am I the only one that gets super aggravated, hopefully for other reasons, with Christians saying that gay men will molest and rape kids if allowed to adopt?
Or that gay people are the result of sexual assault.

I have difficulty comprehending the hatred that comes from these people, let alone that they would say that.

I wish I could not take it personally, but I am a survivor. My brother did these things to me for seven years, while forcing me to read the bible...figure that one out, right? I hope that you don't think I'm posting this for attention, its just something I need to put somewhere, and given the forum name, I figured this would be an OK place to do it.  That, and the journal my therapist gave me.

Its stuff like this, though, that makes me hate religion. "Oh we don't hate you, we hate what you do." "God says this or that..."  :upset:  I just want to his them with that fantasy novel, right upside their pointed little heads.

Anyway, I'll understand if this gets taken down, but if not, I want your opinions.

Sorry again if this is a bit heavy handed.

Rant away if it helps. The Christian view of sexuality is warped at the best of times and did you know you're gay because God wanted it? There is a tract in Romans I think that states male homosexuality is a punishment. But that means all gay men are the product of Gods will. Go figure  :yay:

This is actually why I think Christianity, of all religions, is the most dangerous. When I was sixteen I left Catholicism to be Pagan. Paganism, for the most part, tells you to live your life to your best, lest you cause harm. Many, not all, Wiccans claim that one should never cause harm, yet, this in itself is a logical fallacy in my view, because while your intent may not be to harm anyone, there must be balance. Example, if you stop a murder, someone is still going to die. In prison, because the person got away or what have you. The idea of never causing harm is, more or less, an impossibility.  Though, I'm sure you know this.

Anyway, thank you for being so kind.

Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear about past horrors, that's terrible.  Things like that were one of the many reasons I began to abandon my fundamentalist belief when I was younger.
Secondly, rant away, that's what we're here for.

John, you are completely justified in your feelings about religion and homosexuality.  Fundamental Christians in America are the worst and there is this growing sense of fundamentalism sweeping our nation.  I believe that a lot of it comes from the election of Obama, not so much because he is black, but because he is a convenient excuse for those who hate to stir up that hate among the easily agitated Right Wing Christian NUTWINGS.  This has unfortunately spilled over to give those who hate the opportunity to return to their doctrine of hate toward everyone who is not the same as they are.

In short, the evangelical, fundamentalist Christians are out to "rid the world" of all things seen as evil or against their doctrine of hatred.  The problem with this is that they feel empowered by this because of idiots like Oral Roberts, and all the other TV Televangelists who are inciting them to "action" and it's even worse because they have this public figure, almost like the second coming of Christ, in Sarah Palin.  It hasn't helped that Bush nearly ruined our economy, then handed the crap to Obama and gives the Far Right another, wrongly placed, "reason" to hate liberals and Obama.

I am sorry for your problems, I understand them, not from the point of being gay, but from the point of being both an atheist and a Southerner who grew up with some of those hating Southern Baptist Fundamental Christian nutjobs.  But, I promise you this, times are changing, and within our lifetime, gays will be given more rights, more LEGAL rights, and given enough time, reason and the law, will be on the side of right.  Hang in there, and keep ranting, the more those of you who are being mistreated rant, the more all the rest of us have to listen.  Peace.

Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill

QuoteIn Uganda, the Anti-Homosexuality Bill if enacted, would broaden the criminalisation of homosexuality by introducing the death penalty for people who have previous convictions, are HIV-positive, or engage in same sex acts with people under 18 years of age. The bill also includes provisions for Ugandans who engage in same-sex sexual relations outside of Uganda, asserting that they may be extradited  for punishment back to Uganda, and includes penalties for individuals, companies, media organisations, or non-governmental organisations that support LGBT rights...

6 pints plum butter and 2 quarts lime pickles (as in cucumbers treated with lime, not pickled limes) are processing as I type this.......

The plumb butter sounds nice, not so sure about the lime though not keen on lemon or lime as a flavour.

Don't remind me of that bill. The thing about that is people "representing" this country started that. This is why I'm anti-theist. One of many reasons anyway
