Anyone read Christopher Hitchens' little brother's new book Rage Against God: How Atheism Led Me to Faith? I just heard him talking about it on the radio. Seems to make all the usual mistakes.  :|

Quote from: "kelltrill"Oo genade! Ek moet a wit, jong meisie wie se eerste taal Afrikaans. Dit is gladnie moelik nie maar sy moet ook met oorronding praat, en niemand hier in Kaapstad praat so nie. Dit gaan nou 'n pes wees >.<

(Oh goodness! I need to find a white, young female who's first language is Afrikaans. That in itself is easy but she must also over-round her vowels, and no one in Cape Town speaks like that. This is going to be such a hassle >.< )

sigh.

I know the internet tends to turn otherwise normal people into raging fucking assholes, but there is a chick that belongs to another forum I visit who just plucks my nerves consistently.  I haven't had a single interaction with her where she wasn't trying to bait me or bash me, for no reason.  I don't even directly interact or converse with her, she just likes to respond to anything I say with some rude or nasty quip.  Thank Flying Spaghetti Monster for the foe feature.

If you want to debate on theist 'home turf' then I would suggest http://www.theologyweb.com/ it's reasonably good natured, a bit lit an evil twin of HAF

My preferred atheistic role models are AC Greyling and Dan Dennett.  Greyling is the teacher everybody should experience and Dennett is the ultimate grand dad.

I love Daniel Dennett.  I just want to snuggle up in his beard and have him talk nerdy to me.   :D  I didn't know he had a brother, is he a jerkface or just really misguided or what?

Imaging a theistic fundamentalist version of Christopher and you won't go far wrong. He's also a holocaust denier, or at least once wrote a book saying that Hitler 'didn't know it was going on'.  :|

I may be confusing him with somebody else. Here is Peter's wiki entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Hitchens and I can't see any particular reference there. That's annoying as I was sure it was him.

Thanks! I've been hoping to hunt down some SA atheists by dropping Afrikaans here and there. Are you from SA?

Omw I cannot believe that Peter Hitchens is actually a person. It sounds like a movie plot: the outspoken anti-theistic author and his younger theistic brother. Christopher must hate family gatherings, although I would give anything to be a fly on the wall at their family reunions.

I would imagine that when Peter and Christopher get going the sparks would fly!

No, I'm from the Netherlands. I understand Afrikaans, because It is a daughter language of Dutch, originating in its seventeenth century dialects.
