8:45 am, and I'm about to be dragged to church for the third time in my life. Ever. My dad plays in the church band and he wants me to hear him play. Okay, that's all well and good, but I'm convinced I'm going to walk through those doors and be so obviously "heathen" that I wont last 5mins. Besides which, what does one even wear to church? This all feels so weird.

If the church you are going to is not fundamentalist you probably won't be bothered by anyone and can just sit there and look nice.

Typically you would wear something that would be appropriate for a dress-casual office job.

Even if it sucks going your dad will probably appreciate you hearing him play; esp if he knows you don't believe and are going just for his sake.

Wear flame-retardant clothing. I find that helps.

I survived with minimal scarring. After the first song my dad played I tried to clap for him. I literally got three claps in before I just stopped because no one else was on the same wave length as me. So, that's at least a  6 out of 10 for drawing attention to myself. He appreciated my embarrassment though, so at least my efforts weren't entirely futile.
I saw people fall down for the first time, people raise their hands in worship etc. It was actually really interesting. Having an outsider's perspective made it feel nearly like I was watching a movie, and the knowledge that I'm probably not going to be converted helped me just relax and take in everything that was happening.
I'm going to a different church next Sunday. Apparently people talk in tongues there and do the falling down thing way more often.  I'm really curious to see more and, if it's anything like what I experienced yesterday, this is only serving to strengthen the religious convictions I already have. I'm just getting a first hand, more hands-on experience about it this time.

I've never seen that before because I went to a church that was about as opposite of enthusiastic about participating in the worship part of service as they could get...I might have to figure out where a church like that is around here and get some accomplices to go with me.

Of course, I also need to evaluate if I can manage to see something like that without laughing...I'm not sure if I can.  The last time I saw some crazy religious people (scientologist booth at the fair) I couldn't keep from literally bursting out into the giggles; which happened right when I was reading the stuff they had setting out and realized who they were AND that people were actually taking the "stress test."  If I could have kept my cool I probably would have taken the test just to see what they ask and what they would try to do to recruit me...maybe I can be more mature next time; some people make it hard though.

Why must Girls' Night In always end in doing each other's hair and gossiping? I want to be racing trolleys in empty shopping centres or in bed reading my book. This is becoming annoying and unimaginative.

There's a very simple fix for that:

Rastelin

Oh dear. Had a shitty day yesterday. A cat was overrun by a car right outside my house. The animal was still alive, but the lower body and hip section was crushed. The intestine was sticking out. There was only one thing I could do for the animal. I got the axe and made it quick.

The woman who drove the car was completely hysterical. She refused to get back in the car. She had a major over reaction. I tried to explain to her that these things sadly happen, but to no avail. My neighbor had to drive her home in her own car. I picked him up after.
Good grief.

^ Rastelin, that's so awful.  I'm sorry you had to experience that.

I think I'll go hug my cat now.   :cat:

Last Saturday my wife and I were on a tour in the Dominican Republic. Part of the tour was a visit to a local voodoo priest (a pretty weird, but funny experience) and the Cathedral in Higuey (a very ugly concrete building). A catholic mass was going on at the cathedral while we visited it, with a priest chanting in Spanish and spraying people with water.  After those two silly events, my wife told me "You know what, I'm not sure which one of the two visits was supposed to be the visit to the voodoo priest  :hmm: ".
