I am Chris. When I was a child I was forced to go to Church as punishment. Not my brother and sister just me :( My family used to pick on me and badly abuse me. Anyway I hated it. It was so bloody boring. I was an Alter boy and in the choir and had to dress in one of those fucking frocks. sorry for the language I hated it so much. I went to a normal compressive and was filled with dread every Sunday that one of my friends would come to Church and see me and it would go round the whole school I was dressed in those bloody frocks :( I was a boy what the fuck do I want to dress in a frock for? Anyway I hate religion it is all greed, power and violence. Hi everyone :) x

Hello, Religious phobic. The description of the traumatic origins of your phobia is colorful. No need to apologize for profanity. If it's called for then by all means use it.

I was an altar boy as well, though generally I enjoyed it. I had already rejected the teachings of the church, and serving as an altar boy was less boring than sitting in the pews. I got my first taste of an alcoholic beverage surreptitiously, and found other opportunities to widen my horizons as well. In those days we wore the full surplice over cassock get-up ("frock" as you call it). However, given that was part of the schtick, I wasn't self-conscious about it. I liked setting up the censer on the days when the priest fumigated the church with frankincense and myrrh.

I sympathize with your hatred for religion, and nurtured a similar sentiment myself for many years. Eventually I acknowledged that its excesses and abuses are common human behavior and not particularly exceptional. As a species we're fairly nasty yet we manage to do some fine things nonetheless. I don't include religion among them, but people find ways to do good even in a religious context.

You came to an appropriate place if you want to vent your abhorrence and animosity. On the other hand we like to discuss a wide range of topics. Feel free to tell us about the things that interest you.

You make a good point that it's human condition :) I have schizophrenia and bi-polar given to me as punishment for cheating on my ex and mother of my children. Due to bi-polar when I was ill I would religious quest. I found two horrible Churches one the pastor ( Simon ) said "God would forgive Hitler if he said sorry ". I was furious not just because I am Jewish I would be furious anyway. What about Justice ? His second in command was doing a sermon about pornography and honestly was eyeballing me whilst speaking in front of the church I promise this. I thought
A) How dare he
B) Who says God is against pornography ?
C) How do you know if I watch pornography. What an assumption about my private life
D) that's ok for you to say you have a wife I am single what am I supposed to do ?
Another Church had a black congregation and I was working to raise money for WaterAid and wanted to speak to the pastor and he totally blanked me. So I kicked off about him being rascist and he asked people to kick me out of Church but when I was younger I wasn't a man to be trifled with when angry so nobody did. A black lady who had pretended to be my friend started talking about the Devil in me. I hate this. This is my pet hate. I believe I am Lucifer when ill but have always hated people bringing the Devil into it. People whining like babies about the Devil.
Then I found one great Church called Everyday Champions that had got someone off heroine and was training him to be a pastor. They also had a soup van for homeless and Hungry and treated me like gold :) x
so you right it's human condition. Two terrible Churches vs one good Church.
Thank you for welcoming me I am glad your experience of Church when a child was better than mine :) x
