Germaine Greer and J. K. Rowling have come under fire recently for describing male trannies as not real women. Barry Humphries described the medical procedures behind the transformation of men into women as genital mutilation. As far as I am concerned, a trannie cannot change their DNA and that is that as they say.

I broadly agree, though there are some issues.

To be a woman, you have to satisfy the following: a. be a human, b. be female and c. be an adult. Change one (or more) and you change the word used; pig rather than human would make it a sow. Juvenile rather than adult would make it a girl. Male rather than female would make it a man.

Trans is a modifier. Is a trans woman a woman? Without it, I would say that she is not due to not satisfying b. above. She is a trans woman.

That said though, I'd advocate taking any potentially-volatile debate on this topic to Social Issues and Causes.

Eh... They say humility is a virtue, yet few are willing and able to explain how.

I think it's important to be aware of one's own limitations and at times, equally important not to hide, downplay or disguise them, but as long as you are and as long as you are willing to change with the changing reality, then what's wrong with arrogance?

No one

The arrogant are never willing to admit fault. Nor are they willing to change.

Asmodean

That statement calls for receipts.

I suppose I understand what you are trying to say, but that describes a narcissist more than it does someone merely arrogant.

Being arrogant speaks to behaviour of superiority in for example status or knowledge. You can be more important than somebody and be at fault. A military general suffering a tactical defeat comes to mind. He can acknowledge the defeat and start looking beyond it, his overall impression of his own greatness undiminished.

A theoretical physicist knows more than I do about quantum entanglement. He can be wrong about his model and amend it with the changing facts, yet still act as if I don't know what I'm talking about when discussing such matters with me.

An athlete can take an occasional loss and still be the-best-in-the-fucking-world and act like it.

If they can cash them checks, so to speak, why shouldn't they act like they could?
