It would probably grow tedious after a while. Although I'm not saying I wouldn't like to live forever, but some Christian in here said life was meaningless. If this were truly how one felt, then the gospel should actually come as bad news.

I once asked my grand mother when I was a little girl how she could just sit in a rocking chair, and look out her window all day. She told me that when you get to her age, staring out the window is no less tedious than doing anything else.

I don't know if that is true or not, but it is something I've always remembered.

Quote from: "Dilj4Jesus"I have to disagree. If you read Ecclesiastes the message is clear. Life is completely meaningless! The only thing that matters is to be in relationship with your creator. Any question like, "Why is there suffering?" or "Can God create a rock so big he couldn't move it?" These are irrelevant. There are angels in heaven with eyes covering their entire bodies, and after seeing all of creation all they can say is, "Holy Holy Holy!" God is unbelievable! He offers us a chance, because he loves us, to take part in his plan. I find this to be more meaningful then to think... what?

Every step I take on the sands of time fades and is seen no more. We are not important. We are the result of pure chance!?  Where is the meaning in chance? Embrace a higher calling!

This is what the Bible says.
"For I know the plans I have for you...plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11).

First of all, addressing non-religious people with Bible verses doesn't work. I could address you with a hundred texts against religion but you'd ignore them, and at least I recognize that probably any text is flawed and has mistakes, you believe in the Bible is but no one on this forum is going to believe Dawkins or Hitchens writes the divinely inspired words of natural selection.

Do you even have a Biblical source for these 'eye covered angels?'. Not that it would make the difference to me but I always like to know where people pull their 'facts' from.

The existentialist lifestyle that I embrace is essentially the same thing God would have to embrace. You believe we were created and inspired by an essence the precedes our existence. But if nothing created God, then his existence preceded his essence and even God had to create purpose, which would result in purpose itself not being eternal but being a creation of a consciousness.

In short, if the universe doesn't exist by chance but by God, then God exists by chance. In which case the existentialist is embracing the same mindset you feel God had - I'm here, and I have to decide for myself what meaning and purpose is.

That's interesting...

I really don't know how one would handle eternal life. The elderly usually seem to know when they're ready to go though. As magnificent as life is there certainly can be too much of a good thing.

I don't think children born into poverty, disease and starvation are sitting around contemplating the Bible or even reading it. They are trying to survive in a seemingly unfair world....which is unfair to them.......
An older lady was talking about her doll collection today, and many of us said we had too many....and she went on to say..."God wanted me to have these...God this and god that...."...This woman is in her sixties...
Come on....we even depict god looking like Santa in most illustrations without the red suit....and a wee bit thinner....
