Why is everyone ( it seems ) so anti-America?
Well, me, I just compare it to Norway and find it sort of... Worse. That's the whole reason, really.

Norway is just ...kind of fucking awesome.

This, but with Canada. If I were a psychic, I would say I looked into America's future, and its aura was fading.

Why is everyone ( it seems ) so anti-America?  I happen to love America.  It has afforded me everything I want. ( except wealth, but I'm working on that with my weekly lotto ticket. ).

I don't see myself as anti-America (except for the fact that there's more to America than the U.S.A, but I digress. ;D

;)

Problem with powerful countries is that they have a lot of interests to protect, which usually means putting their noses where they don't belong. It's not something exclusive to the U.S, it would be any other expansionist empire-building country with influence and vast military capability. Thing is, for now, that would the U.S. Might be China and some other Asian countries next...except so far they're probably not as expansionist, but that can quickly change.

Totally OT, but that quote from Always Sunny in your sig is awesome, anti-Mike.

Thanks Ali! That was definitely one of the best episodes in a show full of nothing but hilarious.

Please tell me which ep.
I LOVE THAT SHOW SO MUCH.

Dee is hilarious. Well, everyone is. Seen the Stockholm syndrome episode?

The Gang Exploits a Miracle

And yes I've seen that one. I have every episode and seen them many times over. Really hard to choose an absolute favorite.

Ditto. Hubby and I could probably make a lot more money if we pursued careers in the U.S., but we'd never do it.
ETA: You know how you hear people in the states threaten to move to Canada all the time? Yeah, the opposite never really happens in Canada. No one is like "That's it! I'm moving to the U.S.!"
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

Yeah yeah yeah.  Boo to the US and all that.

One of my British coworkers said it best.  To paraphrase "The thing that people forget about the US is that it's fucking huge.  It spans a continent.  There's a lot of room for diverse cultures and thought there."  Thank you Simon, I concur.   Americans are not all X or Y or Z, any more than Europeans are all X or Y or Z.  Except hot.  Europeans are all hot, that's a given.

Anything east of the 605 is another country to me...and those west of the 405 would probably say the same of those east of the 405. ( you'd have to know So. Cal. for this.  ;) )  The culture and even dialects change very quickly.

Edit FYI:  The 405 and the 605 are North and South running highways in L.A.

Ali

^^  Haha, I don't know the places, but I know the feeling.  Moving from Ohio to Colorado was a total culture shock.  Everything about everything felt different, including fashion, slang/dialect, popular music, and just general attitude.

And even better, it appears that she is hot too.

I don't love everything about my inlaws.  Heck, there are some things about them I can't stand.  But I love my inlaws, I love their daughter, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  There are some things about the USA I can't stand.  However, I love my country, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else permanently.  I spent two years in Germany, and as awesome as a place as it was, I won't retire there.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure there are quite a lot of people in every country, be it North Korea or Canada, who see it that way. And as long as that is all there is, a problem, it is not.

It does, however, become a problem when a country tries to impose its "vastly superior" ways on others.
