Would you change your nationality if you could?  If so, to what?

No, I'm quite happy being an American from Texas. However, I did live overseas for 4 years (Great Britain, France, Italy, Yugoslavia), and have traveled extensively.  I don't think a person can be well-rounded or well-grounded unless they have experienced life outside their native culture to some degree.  Everyone needs to see things from the perspective of others for awhile, especially during their 20's, when your worldview is really solidifying.

Nope, even though I dislike many aspects of British culture those same dislikes are part of pretty much every other culture, and some have elements worse than those in the UK. Though I would like to live abroad for a few years.

NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA, DJ!  ;D
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

The Magic Pudding

Teddy Bear's Picnic for evil deeds.
Lou Reed's Perfect Day for general use.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

All I ever wanted

If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.
"Religion is a culture of faith; science is a culture of doubt." ― Richard P. Feynman
'It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it's called Life.' - Terry Pratchett
Remember, your inability to grasp science is not a valid argument against it.

Question for today: If you had a theme song, what would it be?

Apocalyptic Love Song (For Hitchens) by Shelley Segal.

Lyrics:

One day the sun is going to die
For us it means no more sunsets
To the universe, just one less star in the sky

Almost all who ever lived, have already died
Countless stories of love and war and hope and pain
Now silent lay side by side

And yes I understand that my whole life is just a blink of an eye
in the history of the earth, as with each moment that goes by
but this moment that I'm with you
It feels like time has stood still
It feels somehow like it matters
And that it always will

In one billion years, the oceans will dry
While somehow life may continue
It will not be known to you and I

To think we are so important, is an obvious crime
We know that we are specks on a tiny dot
Hurtling through space and time

And yes I understand that my whole life is just a blink of an eye
in the history of the earth, as with each moment that goes by
but this moment that I'm with you
It feels like time has stood still
It feels somehow like it matters
And that it always will

She wrote it for Christopher Hitchens, who she considered a hero of hers. I like it not because it's for him, but because it captures our position in space and time, and how as small and tiny as we are, we still matter to those who love us now, and they matter to us. That's awesome, to me.

ETA: Living After Faith podcast recently featured her in an interview. Delightful woman. :)

Theme song?  I haven't a clue.
Life is but a momentary glimpse of the wonder of the astonishing universe, and it is sad to see so many dreaming it away on spiritual fantasy.~Carl Sagan

Law 35- "You got to go with what works." - Robin Lefler

Wiggum:"You have that much faith in me, Homer?"
Homer:"No! Faith is what you have in things that don't exist. Your awesomeness is real."

"I was thinking that perhaps this thing called God does not exist. Because He cannot save any one of us. No matter how we pray, He doesn't mend our wounds.

Feist - I Feel It All

I feel it all I feel it all
I feel it all I feel it all
The wings are wide the wings are wide
Wild card inside wild card inside

Oh I'll be the one who'll break my heart
I'll be the one to hold the gun

I know more than I knew before
I know more than I knew before
I didn't rest I didn't stop
Did we fight or did we talk

Oh I'll be the one who'll break my heart
I'll be the one to hold the gun

I love you more
I love you more
I don't know what I knew before
But now I know I wanna win the war

No one likes to take a test
Sometimes you know more is less
Put your weight against the door
Kick drum on the basement floor
Stranded in a fog of words
Loved him like a winter bird
On my head the water pours
Gulf stream through the open door
Fly away
Fly away to what you want to make

I feel it all, I feel it all
I feel it all I feel it all
The wings are wide, the wings are wide
Wild card inside, wild card inside

Oh I'll be the one to break my heart
I'll be the one who'll break my heart
I'll be the one who'll break my heart
I'll end it thought you started it

The truth lies
The truth lied
And lies divide
Lies divide

Best lines are "I love you more...I don't know what I knew before..."  I feel like that all the time, like I don't even understand what I  thought I knew before, and I don't care because I would rather be close to someone than be right.
