Forsaken

Hello everyone. I am from the Fiji Islands and a proud atheist for the last 6 years. I guess knowledge was the only reason that made me realize the falsity of religiosity. The only thing I regret every second of my life after un-converting is that why I did not do it earlier. Nevertheless, I am happy I realized the truth instead of wasting my entire life. There are more important things in life than believing in fairy-tales, I suppose.

Hi there, a warm welcome to you! Glad to meet you, hope you enjoy HAF, Forsaken!

Interesting username though -- how come you're Forsaken? Or have you forsaken something? Hmmm... :)

Is there religious freedom in Fiji or do you get tormented like some of our poor American friends?

Hats. Hats are more important, just ask The Magic Pudding.

Welcome!

Ah yes more important things...
But it's not this thing or that thing that matters as much as whether it fits.  If you have a beautiful hat but it fits you like a bucket it's no good.  I have my own tailored fairy tail where it's nice to be nice because you want it that way and it's OK to enjoy natural things without guilt, fits very nicely.  Those tacky millennia old rag tag fairy tales designed for ancient goat  herders, why people are still trying to fit into those I've no idea, they were never a good look.

Hello Forsaken, it would be interesting to here about Fiji, about your view of coups and things.

Thanks for the welcome Amicale. The name Forsaken was just a random choice but can be attributed to some degree to my earlier life fantasy with Gothic culture.

Hi Stevil. Fiji is a very religious country; 51% are Methodists, 30% are Hindus and the rest comprise of Catholics, 7th Day Adventists, Buddhists, Islam, etc. The percentage of known atheists, agnostics, deists or people with on religion are negligible - less than 1%. While freedom of religion is a constitutional right, atheism is not commonly disclosed in public without the threat of being bashed up to even the point of being killed. I have been threatened on various occasions.

The Magic Pudding, thanks for the welcome. The involvement of religion (Methodists) in politics has been the major cause of political upheavals in Fiji. The current PM (an Army Commander) has taken a stance on the separation of church and state and this move has been welcomed by a majority of the population. One of his motives to stage the coup was to rid Fiji of corruption and he has done a pretty good job at it. What you guys might be hearing about Fiji in the media (suppression of freedom, army cruelty, etc) are just false propaganda spread by a few rotten heads in Fiji. Fiji is and has always been a very peaceful place to visit and stay.

Welcome forsaken! That's horrible about the threats, but it is like that to some degree everywhere.  America is not much better.  Wherever there are people, there will be a whacko with a weapon. Just 2 years ago a woman got her head stepped on for protesting against other protesters at a tea party rally.  I guess they were mad.  How dare you protest where I am protesting!!

Thanks for the welcome Recusant. Yep, not many atheists in Fiji; the negligible percentage who are are either too afraid of coming out of the closet or just don't care joining any atheist community. In fact, any open statement in support of Atheism is strongly opposed by the people here, as Fiji is a predominately religious country. (Methodist, Hindus and Muslims make up the majority of the faith practised in this country)
