I don't understand why these religious types are so hung up" on the whole "End of Days" scenario.  Presumably they believe that they'll all be Raptured or whatever when it happens anyway, so what's the deal with getting all het up about it?

People want meaning in their lives.  It's why random events that occur over billions of years that lead to human beings with self awareness is not a good enough answer for how things came to be for most people on Earth.  They want to believe there is a higher meaning or purpose, therefore a higher power that created us and has some sort of plan or design on it all.  There is a tendency to believe that we're special; that grand events will happen during our lifetime.  It's all very egotistical.  Somehow the times we are living in now are more important than any other time past or future.  Humans are very self-centered.

Miranda was visited by Jesus in 1973 -- apparently the Messiah walked up to him and entered his body.

Did he at least buy him dinner afterwards? ;D

Jesus must have missed the "no means no" campaign.
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

The universe is a cold, uncaring void. The key to happiness isn't a search for meaning, it's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually you'll be dead!

I think I first saw this guy in Bill Mahr's Religulous. I can't remember for certain though, but if it is the same guy, he came off as bat-shit crazy in that. Or it's just an act to get peoples money.

One day one of these people is going to be right. Pity he/she won't be around to reap the credit.
Probably not in our lifetime. And all that would do would be to confirm the truth of the Texas Sharpshooter fallacy.

It might well be ended by a Texas sharpshooter.
Some ideas are so stupid only an intellectual could believe them (Orwell).

Christianity is full of modern day "prophets."  Like members of Congress, they all have a record.  Look at all their "prophecies" and see how many of them have failed. You are sure to find many.  This guy has now gone out on a limb and named a date, which will be a failed prophecy.  He just needs to be held accountable for this glitch in his prophetic powers.  Most "prophets" keep their "prophecies" general and vague, so there is plenty of wiggle room.  That's hard to do when you specify a particular date. This should be the end of his "ministry," but it probably won't be. For whatever reason, people eat this stuff up.

By the way, my two week vacation begins on June 30.  I'm not canceling it.

It is odd. Harold Camping (the guy who's name escaped me) has quite the record, but there are still those who would sell all their belongings to "sound the trumpets" and whatnot.

Intriguing.

PICK ME!!! PICK ME!!!
The essence of the mind is not in what it thinks, but how it thinks. Faith is the surrender of our mind; of reason and our skepticism to put all our trust or faith in someone or something that has no good evidence of itself. That is a sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith is not.
