Hi Anne!
My name is Charlie and I've been an atheist for approximately the same number of years as you...let's see, I'm 72 and the only reason I attended church was to sing.

At 72 you're are our oldest member as far as I know. OldGit will have to change his user name  :D
So our current age range is 16 to 72. Not bad at all!
If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

Hi, Charlie, welcome.  No, I won't change my username because I'm still an Old Git - but you're now the oldest!  Congratulations!

We oldies will take over the world and block the invasion of the grey lumps!  Then we'll talk of nothing but false teeth and hearing aids and getting up in the night to pee ...

Make that 76, Mrs. Lebrecht mentioned that in another thread, so she beats out Charlie here. :)

I think we got mentioned on a show, a few people said that.

Ooh. I want to watch it. They probably mentioned me. My awesomeness made people flock to the forum.  ;D

The mention of aetheism on PBS' McLaughlin Report today prompted a panel member to share that her late husband was a member of your forum. Since I respect the integrity of the program, I searched out your website. For years I have suspected I was an aetheist, however I could not say so with certainty, being unable on my own to provide a definitive philosophy for aetheism. It turns out that if I am to believe (and I do) your extraordinarily poignant Mission Statement, then, indeed, I am an aetheist.
Thank you for providing a wonderful sense of liberation and the confidence to step out of the closet.

Welcome to the forum. I'd also be very interested in the particular program that mentioned the forum as well as learning which of our members has passed away.

Welcome to the forum!
I did a little googling, and while I couldn't dig up a video, I did find this:

It looks like The McLaughlin Group's Eleanor Clift said her husband was an atheist. His name was Tom Brazaitis and he died in 2005. But it seems like that's too early for this forum, since all members registered no earlier than 2006? Though I recall some of you mentioning that the software was changed at some point.

Chronos

I was watching The McLaughlin Group (a Washington DC-based show with political talking heads) on the DVR just now and was quite surprised for them to be talking about atheists and even more surprised to hear that Eleanor Clift mentioned the "happyatheistsforum.com", specifically. Regardless of which websites or forums her husband may have visited prior to his death, Eleanor must be visiting this website herself to refer to the specific forum name and to make the comments that she did from the discussions that occur here.

Eleanor Clift has been a columnist for Newsweek magazine for well over 30 years. An extremely nice and fortunate mention from someone who is not normally discussing religion or atheism.

Good evening Mrs Lebrecht (I do feel like a bit of respect is required!). 60 years, eh?! You've gotta be due for a lightening bolt soon!

For some reason I've constructed this mental picture of you at the Pearly Gates demanding the management out so you can put Him over your knee. I'm gagging to see this played out!

Am I close to the mark?

Welcome.

Me at the PearlyGates?   NO WAY! NO HOW......

EDIT: Tweaked the quote tags - Tank

Anne you hadn't quite scrolled down far enough and found the final [/quote] tag so you inadvertently embedded your comment inside what had been quoted. This often happens if the post you are quoting has some extra (excess) empty lines at the bottom. Don't you'll get the hang of it  :)
