I think I am going to build a bike, certainly going to go for a carbon drive system than the traditional chain, I wonder if I can use them with a fixie.
Presumably the prime advantage of the belt is lower weight with a side effect of no lubrication?

My main reasoning is to prevent oil stains, a decision purely based on vanity. Though I have had a ride on a custom track bike fitted with one and I thought it was brilliant.

Ooh, nice plan! On what frame?

Not sure as of yet, I am stuck between a trick frame or road frame. I like both but for totally different reasons, I like the freedom of the trick frame but I also like the edgy speed and aesthetics of a road frame. Hmmm decisions, decisions.

Thats a huge difference in applications! I learned a lesson early on that it was better to buy a frame suitable for my realistic ACTUAL riding rather than one suited to a what I fantasised about doing. I was stuck with a heavy downhill monster for years. I eventually bit-the-bullet and bought a lightweight cross-country/all-mountain frame (and honed it with the choice of components) which fits - physically and metaphorically - like a glove. I'd be wary of a trick frame if you intend to do any sort of mileage - these are VERY inefficient for riding distances and would be very uncomfortable to do so. Right tool for the job...

I dont think you'll find a frame suitable for the belt drive unless you're buying a full suspension, or one purpose built (which is currently a bit limiting). It's a bit tail-wagging-the-dog to decide on the belt before frame. But I do love the belt idea and if you can swing it I'd be very jealous (though I don't envy you a single-speed if you're doing hills!)

My advice: decide what sort of riding you will be doing most (or get most pleasure from) and channel all your energies (and money) into that. You can compromise and buy a hybrid or a cross-bike but that's just uncool.

Penguins and polar bears, they are sort of from the opposite poles... So like... WFT?  ???

This feigned ignorance is fooling no one.
We know the penguins are your minions, out recruiting your polar bear legions.

Penguins aren't just Antarctic critters, there's a colony in Sydney.
Hmm, probably spying...

I have nothing to add to the technical machinery-type talk.
So I'm going to talk about nail polish.

I bought this colour yesterday and I really like it. In low light it looks kind of gray-ish, but in direct light you can see the purpley-ness. I like dark nails, but I find that black looks too stark sometimes.

;D

That's a neat looking shade! I like how it's more a muted purple. :) Which colours of clothing would you wear with that?

I have a shade of bluey-silver nailpolish that does that too with the light, low light makes it more silver, direct light shows you the blue. Nail polish is fun. I currently have this shade on right now:

Ooh, pretty nails!

I actually quite like purple and blue nail polish, but I never paint my nails anything other than red.  I don't really know why, it's just kind of my thing.  My favorite red right now is OPI's Vodka and Caviar.  It's just such a classic, bright shade of red, and it looks really good on short nails.  I can't bear to have long nails, I always start biting them when they get much above the tips of my fingers.

I would love to have long nails, but they always break and it is impossible to keep them clean.

It is 30oC right now and I am roasting!

That purple color is gorgeous.

I usually just do black, gray, or dark green.

I think we have all done it. I know I have!

This is one I saw. I was standing in a queue at a reception in a hotel in Chicago waiting to check in. This very elegant lady sailed through reception towards the rotary door. It was glass. She failed to see that the segment she was heading for was in fact glass. She walked right into it, hard! She bounced off, looked around, saw the horrified looks on the people in reception and walked carefully and very icily into the door via the open segment and left the hotel. The porter went over to the door and cleaned the make up off the segment the woman had walked into. He then turned to us and said 'People should be more careful, that happens all the time.'

I am so in love with this horse. In one week, he has proven himself to be easier to train than six months of work on Vinnie. In a week I've taught him to stand tied, lead, lunge ( go around in a circle with me in the middle, set up ( pose) for the judge, and get in the trailer with no problems. Having not been touched in about a year, he was pretty dirty, but with some elbow grease he is black and shiny.  ;D
