Thanks for the positive thoughts on my kiddle and our issues here.  I'm thinking he must have been on an arc of some sort with those tantrums for two solid weeks because the day after we saw the doctor, they all but stopped!  He's been his usual happy-go-lucky self as of late.

Willravel, the doctor has a five-pronged attack for BPD:

--Therapy, to help rewire the brain past the BPD tendencies and learning techniques for handling the ups and downs.

--Medication, which can hopefully be reduced or eliminated in time pending the result of the therapeutic techniques.  I've already done some research on possible meds but until we see the doctor again, I'm just spinning wheels.  Ugh.  Seems most of them result in weight gain and little results, but we'll see what they come up with.

--Sleep, ensuring he gets a full 10-12 hours a night.  Luckily, this has never been a problem with our kid.  We did a nighttime routine starting when he was 2 months old and we never let up.  He's 8 now and he's in bed by 7:45 every night, even weekends.  He's up around 6:30 in the morning, even weekends.  LOL!  He did tell me that sometimes, he has to lie there for an hour before his brain shuts down but I'VE got techniques for helping with that as that is one of MY problems, too.

--Diet, especially getting good carbs (whole grains), fruits and veggies.  We're working on that... CONSTANTLY.  He loves his carrots but that's the only veggie he'll eat voluntarily.  And while we always have fruits on hand, he shuns them unless forced.  Lately, I've stopped buying candy (my personal demon) so he has less of that to beg for.  This diagnosis will be good for ALL of us in the diet arena.

--Finally, exercise, at least one hour of aerobic activity a day (PE not included).  The kid was doing Taekwondo but we stopped a few months ago due to school schedules and time.  But the doctor wasn't too tickled with TKD because of the stop-and-go nature of that sport.  He was much happier to hear that the kid loves swimming, a fully aerobic activity, as even when the teacher isn't directly helping the kids, they're still bouncing around and moving.  We also got the WII Fit program and plan to start that tomorrow.  We also have an elyptical machine that he LOVES, as well as a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) mat for the Gamecube.  Somehow, I'll need to find ONE of these that I can take to Grandma's house for the month of June because that's where we'll be.  She does have a pool.

So this sounds like a very comprehensive, life-changing plan that will help ALL of us.  I'm just anxious for the 28th to get here so Joe can meet with the doctor and we can get on with it.  I HATE waiting when something is in progress.  Ugh.

It sounds like your boy is in good hands. I hope for the best.

Thanks, Willravel...

BTW, we got the WII Fit balance board and program this week and we have to pry the kid off of it.  It is really helping with balance and concentration.  Excellent purchase.  He especially loves the ski slolam and Yoga.  LOL!   :D

Yes, I think American owes Japan a big thanks for the Wii. Who else would have thought of combining video-games with exercise?

My husband can be such a jerk!

Now I have to sit here all afternoon and wait for a tech to come and fix (or replace) the water heater.    :brick:

Well there's a salmonella warning for tomatoes in some states. That could have something to do with it. Something like 145 people are sick in 16 states.

The Netherlands are playing Italy this evening in the Euopean Championship. It is now halftime and they are leading with 2-0. So it's time to switsch off my PC and watch the second half.

I went to Subway yesterday. No tomatoes in Naples, FL.

Today I am wondering how I can get my money and my time back for seeing that stupid new Indiana Jones movie over the weekend.  It was retarded.

I have to say - I liked the movie. It was the quintessential mindless blockbuster. Completely unrealistic action sequences, bad Russian accents, hazy filtered camera effects, cheesy punch sounds, man-eating Amazonian ants... and Aliens. C'mon, how can you top that?? Now Indy's fighting the Commies instead of the Nazis. But you're right, mostly a waste of time. You know what's worse than the movie, though? All those crappy 'documentaries' about the crystal skulls on the Science Fiction channel. I was beating my head into a wall watching one of those a couple of weeks ago. It literally drove me to drinking. But for that I'm always looking for an excuse...

Yep, here in Texas last week, none of the sandwich places I went to for lunch had tomatoes.  They had news clips about the salmonella up on the wall, or they told me directly.  Today at the grocery store, they had only organic greenhouse tomatoes with a sign explaining the salmonella situation.  But, when I got a sandwich today at a Jimmy John's, it had tomatoes on it.  I ate it, and so far I feel fine.

Ug.  I ventured into the land of chemical warnings today - parabens, sulfates, BPD, mercury in fillings - all that stuff that makes you wonder what the real scientific evidence is saying, how much the government and big business are protecting their own interests at the expense of our health, and how much is just hysteria by misinformed mamas who are only trying to protect their kiddos from potentially dangerous products.

Today I read that my ever-so-lovely and terribly useful Tupperware Rock 'n' Serve microwavable storage containers are the devil.  There are supposedly studies that link the BPD in them to early onset of puberty and reproductive problems and cancers.

My girlie has a silver crown in her mouth, which *may* be leaching lead/mercury into her system.  The guilt for not being able to prevent the decay of that tooth has now increased ten-fold.

I've already switched to paraben/sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners, but I'm sure we're using at least another dozen products with those ingredients in them.  Plus, it's more expensive to find "better" alternatives and some just don't work as well or smell as nice as my tried-and-trues.  It's probably best to err on the cautious side, but who is to say that the things that are considered safer at this time won't be found to be dangerous later on?

Part of me wants to say, "hey, we're all dying and surely there are a million things helping us along our slow demise," but the maternal part of me is stressing big time.  Sometimes I just want to be niave, enjoy my life, die a somewhat early death, and forego worrying about it all.

As I always say...Something's gotta kill me.  Worrying is futile.   :banna:   Take your mind off your troubles for a little while.
