How many weapons do you own?

Depends what the training sword is made of. If metal, then probably, yes. If wooden, then obviously no.

Walking sticks are also ok as far as i know.  :D
QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

eskrima sticks, are basically just that STICKS. This is what a typical one looks like:

Billy sticks are hardly better. This is a koga:

A manrikigusari is a chain with weights on the ends. A sjambok is a (Usually leather) horse whip. Bokken are wooden katanas, and a shillelagh is an Irish walking stick. (With a LONG history of kicking all sorts of ass.)

I'm trained in stick fighting, the basic idea is to strike fast and low while not getting hit.... Which is good advice for life in general really.  :bananacolor:

I dunno, bokken aren't exactly safe... compound fractures... ruptured organs... particularly painful impalements...

Well you see... I'm quite clumsy. So I don't own any actual weaponry. There are quite a few weapons in my house though. My husband thinks that he's a viking warrior (I mean...he's tall and quite anglo and likes to wield axes) so we have a vast array of swords, a few maces, and various sharp things I can't name. I own a lot of books... I'm sure that they could be used as projectiles.

The Pen is mightier then the Sword.

I collect fantasy themed knifes, I have about 8-9 so far. I also have a scuba-diver's knife a a small fake katana

I don't need weapons. I can calm diplomacy the shit out of any mother fucking scenario that crosses my path.

Wrong.

The pen is mightier than the sword."

If you're not the stuff of legend, then you're probably better off with the sword.

Of course, in modern times, the sword is entirely useless, which leads to the next point:

No one in this thread has any real use for weapons. They just like having them. I myself highly enjoy playing with throwing knives.

Outside of the context of war, weapons are toys, and very few of the weapons mentioned in this thread would be of much use in a war.
Therefore, they are toys. TOYS.

I have but one weapon... my mind.

We have nothing in our house.
Though, we do live in an area that has an extremely low crime rate. Our entire Province has *maybe* one murder a year (I live in Newfoundland).
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

One murder?! A year?! That's a lot where I come from.

Not when you consider the Holzmann shield deflects projectiles.

Guns have the advantage of range, but damage is less compared to swords.

Also, guns have a much higher upkeep cost. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-forced-to-import-bullets-from-israel-as-troops-use-250000-for-every-rebel-killed-508299.html for example.

Also, Batman hates guns and Batman is always right. Even if he's wrong... Epecially if he's wrong!

This is a gun. Do you mean to say it deals less damage than a sword?

Or are you talking about semi-automatic handguns and revolvers? Does their damage not depend on the caliber and the ammo used? I'm pretty sure I, for one (without much sword training and with minimal handgun training), would do more damage per second with a .50 handgun with hollow point ammunition than a broadsword.

Besides, as I have mentioned somewhere before, if guns were not superior to swords as weapons, swords would still be used on the battlefields as primary weapons, and not as last-ditch-defence or for ceremonial purpose only.
