Heavy Breathing

I'm originally from where I currently live in Florida (Suwannee County) but I grew up and lived in the Orlando area for 30 years (I'm 38. Lived in North Carolina, Opa-Locka, Florida, Altamonte, Florida and Stuttgart, Germany those other 6-7 years). So I'm 99.9% city boy. So, I've only been back here for about three years.

I live in a wooded area. Surrounded by live oak's and pecan trees and the past few days I have been hearing heavy breathing (not human) in the woods. I tried looking online but it's mainly ghost things people say, or what not. Nonsense crap. Anyway, for whoever here who have lived in similar areas, do you know what it could be?

I thought I saw a boar the other day but it was dark and it was too far away to make out -- do they breathe heavy? There's a few opossums near my house but they know me, and we leave each other alone but I did read on one website they breathe heavy when threatened. Could that be it?

It doesn't scare me or anything. Just curious.

^ In Suwanee county, you may live near Live Oak or Lake City. Beautiful country in that part of our state. Of course it is damned near to the Georgia state line so you might be classified as a yankee. Small Y yankee is not the same as upper case Y Yankees. Anyone from north of Ocala is considered a northerner by we tropical types.  ;D

Opossums often make hissing sounds when the appear to be threatened. Boars do make grunts and groans. Our Florida "hogs" are not to be trifled with. They can be vicious when aroused or threatened. Their wicked tushes can do serious damage.

I was born in Live Oak, i live 10+ miles (dependent on direction coming from) from Live Oak. My driver's license says "Live Oak".

Yeah. Come here and call someone that. I'll bring the shovel.

It would be awesome if ghosts could breathe heavily, maybe then paranormal investigators could finally prove they were real!

A hog is a distinct possibility. Be careful.

We have some pretty fearsome squirrels round here.  I bet it was one of those.

I have live trapped many opossums when they were eating my chickens. They hiss but not loud enough to hear at a distance. Like a whisper.
I doubt it!

There's supposedly bears around here. I live in a farming area, and I have never seen a bear in real life before (maybe at a Zoo but haven't been to one of those since I was a child in the 80s).

It may be one of those guys from Deliverance.  I'd carry my bow and arrow if I were you.

I would have heard a "thud" afterward.
