Sorry to see this. I hope that you both get the care you need. :smilenod:

Quote from: Harmonie on June 28, 2024, 04:49:02 PMThe situation in the USA is extremely frightening for sure. I moved to New England to get away from these Christofascist Trump worshippers, but I'm afraid if he gets in office, with Project 2025 we'll be screwed no matter what state we're in.

I don't flipping care how weak Biden sounds. This isn't about him. It's about stopping Project 2025 and the authoritarian Christofascists behind it. The USA better wake the F*** up right now. We cannot let Trump win. Absolutely not. I'm so scared.
We'll probably live through another chump presidency. I'm hoping against hope that if he is elected that he can be gotten out when the 4 years are up. It makes me sick to think of him in that office again.

Thanks! My wife went to the specialist and found out the she still had four unhealed infections. So, she is once again on sick leave and on four different medications. According to the specialist the bronchitis is highly contagious and difficult to cure. Many people in our area suffer from it. A new variant of Covid-19 is also on the rise.

This. I'm in New England too. At this point, I hope if it gets really bad we just secede.

What you said. It's terrifying. I'm so disgusted and appalled Trump might be president again.

Good to see you, Firebird. I'm sorry for what you and your wife are going through, Tom.

QuoteIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way

im reminded of this succinct description of an earler tipping point, when french government teetered on the watershed between enlightenment and barbarism. barbarism triumphed for a while, until supplanted by dictatorship. it took a hundred years and the great war to align that government into something that ostensibly was working for the common people. even now, forcible conformity to a certain expression of nationisl is applied to the people just like it was in east germany.

if trump is elected president, the coutry will suffer a setback that will either take many, many years to correct, or it will slide into authoritarianism or worse.

In seriousness though, I highly doubt it.

He'd more likely much prefer the predictability of, say, the European bureaucracy. While political unrest in the USA is exploitable, I suspect China is more directly interested in that than Russia. Russia... Has a long game to play. It's difficult with wild cards like Trump, the Dems possibly replacing Biden on the ticket and such-like. Requires more contingency plans, some of them more inconvenient than others.

Of course, if you are thinking of something specific, I'd be more than happy to take this conversation beyond empty buzzwords (thereby already doing way better than that ""debate"" thing I watched between Biden and Trump. Yuck.)

I just hope our rights and freedoms are safe.

New England is the least religious region of the country, and I know that here in CT I am surrounded on all sides by blue states - NY, RI, MA. Hopefully the region could just collectively say a big F U to the Christofascists.

I don't know that will happen, I'm just trying to hold out some hope because these are dark times.
