Quote from: Cecilie on July 03, 2011, 12:27:19 PMWell, I never complain about the rain and you know which part of the country I live in.

If I lived in a palce where it was supposed to rain 360 days a year, I would not complain either. However, I do not live in such a place and thus complaining is quite in order.

Now... Rant emoticon...  >:(

Why am I more mindful of my actions since I became an atheist than when I was a Christian? ???

Because actions have very real consequences you can't pray away, and now you know..?

Agreed. And I am more pressured to do good now than back then.

I've never been a believer, so I do lack perspective when it comes to the whys of things, but it does seem like... For an atheist, there is a you and there is your footprint. And that footprint largely defines how the world greets you, thus, if you wish to be greeted in the best possible way, it's up to you to figure out which skeletons your closet can handle and which are best to avoid closeting in the first place. Basically, you are the one responsible for your actions and for the ripple effects they create.

That can at times weigh heavily on ones conscience. Not just doing the wrong thing or not doing the right one, but also not doing enough.

A believer can justify the means, or dismiss or diminish such emotions, by self-persuasion about cosmic forgiveness or masterplan. We do not have quite the same luxury of comfort by delusion of self as atheists.

Hey, according to Wikipedia we have 125 days when it doesn't rain nor snow. Where do you live anyway? I forgot.
The world's what you create.

skwurll

I just spent the past two and a half hours at church, listening to an old man yell about how I needed the "lovacheezus" in my life, otherwise I'd burn in "hehfire".
I'm not sure what hehfire is, but I think I need some lovacheezus.

But seriously, all the pastors I've seen only preach about fear.

Why were you in a church? ???

Cultivating an appreciation for cheese I think.
Dairy marketing has become rather aggressive since saturated fats lost favour.

Someone called me Mr Grumpy pants and I didn't like it.
After all I don't even wear pants and I'm only sometimes grumpy.
I worry that by reacting I have lost my dignity.

xSilverPhinx

*scratches head* ???

I...really don't see those pants as grumpy. They must be out of their mind.

Donning happy pants was my reaction to being called Mr Grumpy Pants.

Would these be more balanced or just make me look bipolar?

I could just rebel and go for a pair of full on grumpy pants, I'm leaning this way I think.

To be honest it makes you look like you're undecided. Don't go for the full on grumpy pants, that would make you into a self-fulfilling prophecy.  :-\ That wouldn't be rebelling ;)
