I'm tired of people comparing other people to Hitler in order to defame them, it was a tiring meme back in the Regan era...

Are there any other people, fictional or otherwise, that can serve a similar function? To freshen things up a bit.

I propose: "You know who else likes eating where he works? Vlad the Impaler!"

"You know who else was a Republican? Darth Sidious!"

"You know who likes comparing people to Hitler? Glenn Beck!"

Any thoughts/suggestions for good baddies to compare people to?

I'm pretty sure it was a recession, but good one!

The basic tactic that Godwin's law is addressing is that given enough time a Hitler comparison will come up.

Example:

Barack Obama wants universal heath care as did Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

So the basis behind Godwin's law is the idea of Hitler as a strawman.

Hence any invocation of Godwin's law is really about how making a comparison to Hitler is not really a good thing so any new strawman you want to put in it's place is really not productive if you want to criticize someone.

Example:

Obama speaking: "Do you want to go back to what Bush and the republicans where doing?  We need to stay in power so that our (failed) policies have a chance to work.

Again if you are the person in Power and are responsible for your actions and do not want to intimate that you have totally failed because of the previous administration then you can see the issue here of Bush as the strawman/Hitler.  Yet this is a way to blind people who have Bush dirangment syndrome to any lack of efectiveness of the current administration.

conclusion:  No new Persons needed for Godwin's law
Theism is neither true or false. It is simply that a person lacks a belief in naturalism.  Unbeatable Tautology!!! amiright?

Your argument is now invalid.

Godwin's law is about how it is NOT Helpful to compare anyone you want to demonize with Hitler.

I guess you don't get the strawman aspect of how you have invalidated your own effort.  :shake:

You know who else didn't like people comparing people with Hitler? Hitler!

My point is that it's tiring, and could use some freshening up, not that it's a valid argument.

This also means that Glenn Beck needs to be careful and limit any allusions to Hitler as it ultimately does not help

Edit:  I still don't see the need to freshen it up unless it serves to put the Bush Derangement Syndrome crowd in there place.

I wish instead of Hitler, people ultimately ended up comparing others to Sephiroth.  THAT would make the internet more fun.

Couple of problems here:

1. Bush got us in the recession and
2. The Republicans do want to go back to the Bush era policies. They even want to finish the job he regretted he couldn't do which is kill social security.

So no, saying the Republicans haven't changed is not the equivalent of comparing our current president to a mass murdering lunatic.
