Edward the Theist

Quote from: "Thumpalumpacus"Personally, I have to laugh.  This guy thinks he's persecuted.  Now, he's not a child accused of witchcraft in Africa, nor is he a Catholic altarboy, nor is he a Jew in Russia, but trust him: he's persecuted.

The worst thing about his martyrdom is its sheer goddamned banality.  Jeez, if you're going to be a martyr, Eddie my boy, make it entertaining.

Thumpalumpacus I only have one thing to say to that: You're the one following me around in this forum.

Well I can't speak for Thump but I can tell you that on these forums, these discussion forums, every once in awhile someone will come along who is so weird that you can't help yourself, you just have to see the latest weird thing that person has posted.

It's something I find very interesting about these discussion forums, the very eccentric or drunk or drugged or neurotic people who show up from time to time. There's something, oh I don't know...colorful about them.

So in that sense you're a very interesting person, you see what I mean?

Reread that. She was noting how you have, on numerous occasions, essentially called us terrorists to society because we're so big, bad and evil.

Dear Edward (and whoever else it may concern)

I would like theists and atheists to get along.  People are people.  The vast majority of theists are good people.  I think faith can be a beautiful thing. There is no danger in believing in something greater than oneself and hoping to go to heaven after you die.  I am afraid of people who blindly follow religious texts and don't value the physical world, but most theists don't fall into this category.  I like the fact that HAF is a place where theists can come and make their case for the existence of god and the virtues of religion.  Edward the Theist has been particularly entertaining at times.  But......

FUCK THIS HATEFUL MUFUCKA!!!!!  Atheists aren't the ones who need to defend themselves.  Religion has done, and continues to do, great harm to this world.  Wars, slavery, terrorism, the subjugation of women, homophobia, you name an atrocity, there is a high likelihood it can be traced in some way to religion. Interfering with stem cell research...Religion.  Delaying our knowledge of the cosmos.....Religion.  Systematic sexual abuse of children...Religion. Sara fucking Palin.....Religion.  I say the onus is on the theists to separate themselves from their crazy cults and show themselves to be reasonable people of faith, not hate mongers. So Edward, let your dogs out, I'll go Michael Vick on those bitches.  Take the gloves off, I'll knock you the fuck out.  Put that on your blog.

I know.  Warning. Suspension. Ban. Forum Rules. Mission Statement.  Do what you will.  I get it. But respectfully, this is called the "Happy Atheist Forum" not the punk bitch get belittled by hateful Christian forum.

I gave Edward a 7 day ban since I know he's just trying to stir the pot...that's his m.o.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc is a logical fallacy.

Personally, even if it were a matter of "following you around" -- which it's not, and your ego is running rampant now -- but even if it were, it'd be like be the shovel-crew at the elephant parade.  Your shitposting and refusal to see any point other than your own mark you as unworthy of serious consideration.

It's sad that you're so blind you don't even realize: your "hypothesis" is unworthy of serious consideration.  Very well, have your delusion.

This is too funny. I see why you miss him.  One quote Tank pulled from Billy Bob off the interweb:

I am just curious as to what good going to Edward's blog to "discuss" things would do when he has already explicitly stated his personal abhorrence for atheists en masse regardless of the individual person?  I would wager that's about as auspicious as FOX News offering Michael Moore to come and talk about his latest work with Ann Coulter and expected a civil and intelligent discussion.  Edward, if you've already made your decision and have erected this cyber-station of anti-atheism what good would come from you continuing to post here or us posting there?  Other than providing fodder for confrontation?  I, for one, say no thank you as I feel zealotry in any form is unhealthy for humanity.

I think the concept of being anti-Christian or anti-atheist is ridiculous.  My entire family are religious folk, my wife is a theist.  They love and respect me for who I am and do not hate me because I differ on whether or not a deity/higher power/great consciousness exists.  We could spend hours arguing who has done what in history in the name of whoever but in the end it does not change history.  Fighting any kind of intolerance with further intolerance and anger solves nothing and only breeds hatred no matter the group - it is part of how we as humans behave.  It has nothing to do with race, nationality, background or religion.  It is hard to meet snarling hatred and intolerance head on with civility, very difficult.  However, understanding, compassion, empathy and cooperation are the only things that will lead to anywhere worth a damn.  You can internet trash talk atheists in general, the people on this and other forums all you want Edward but it does nothing to bring about peace or stability to the world.  Whether you like it or not people will not always side with your thinking on things you hold very dear but that is life, people are different yet the same.  We have different ideas, influences, thoughts and dreams yet we are the same in our core desires, wants and needs...it just that some people pursue them in maladaptive ways.

It makes me wonder, those who are so anti-atheist.  Do they ever stop and think that their doctor, their lawyer, their boss, their coworkers, their acquaintances, their political leaders....may not be religious and maybe some might even be atheists themselves?  What so many fail to comprehend is that you cannot force someone to believe something - it must come from them alone, it's tantamount to forcing someone to be happy - it is not something that can be done through aggression.  The same goes for atheists who are staunchly anti-theists and each side claims to be fighting fire with fire...but that's not what will succeed.  It will continue to go around and around until more people understand that.  People can accomplish great things when we come together and as one line in movie said that I'll paraphrase - we're at our best when things are their worst.  Why?  Because we can do great things when people come together but divided  we can fall into chaos and destroy ourselves.

Do I think things will ever really change?  I don't know, I can't predict the future. If I say yes, some will call me a silly optimist and that I lack a grasp on reality and if I say no then some will call me a pessimist with no hope in humanity.  People are going to do what they are going to do, I have no real power to change that but I just hope at some point they really, truly stop and think about what it is they are doing and the real reason why.  Some can say it is for the greater good and all that but usually when you get down to it, it's much more personal than that.  Maybe some much needed introspection on everyone's part could help if only a tiny bit.
