Me and my roommies and a few other friends are driving out to the beach late tonight to enjoy the Perseids.  Anyone else going to watch the meteor showers?

pinkocommie

I am!  We're going to a movie at the drive-in, then driving out to my childhood stomping grounds in the country to watch the shower for a few hours.  I'm super excited!

I'd like to, but there's too much light spillage near me.

Got a nifty telescope that I haven't used much.

... and Drive-In Movies too?
(just rub it in, whydoncha...)

Maybe I just need a better vantage point:

I'd love to, but I doubt I'll be able to; where I live, at this time of year an onshore marine flow results in dense fog after 7 or 8 pm this time of year.

Took Friday off from work in preparation. Clear and relatively warm here, so I am super excited.

Just got back! It was pretty nice. Saw about 50 an hour. Was out for three. There was about 6 really good ones.

It turned into a star party!  Lots of people at the park in the country, everyone sharing snacks and cocoa.  :yay:

It was spectacular for us.  The night was clear and it never got below 70 degrees.  I agree that the Geminids are sometimes more spectacular but watching them is more difficult.  It's more fun to lay on your back in the sand than in the snow.

When I was a kid, I lived out in the country and we had a nice enclosed porch so it was easy to watch any of the meteor showers but now I usually miss out on all of the cold weather meteor showers.
