I need to find a source for this, but it is getting late, and I have a good book to read.

I read somewhere that brain scans of people who swear, as in really swearing, shows that different areas of the brain lights up as oppose to the normal areas of the brain associated with speech.

The theory is that when we swear out of hand, and lets face we ALL DO IT, we are doing it reflexively and not with conscious.  There are no theories as to why there is guilt associated with such words.
