Oh noes look whose back!  I decided since I've been gone so long I should introduce myself to the new posters and scare the crap out of the old ones ... or shamefully explain myself.  I hope everyone has been doing good and looking around I see new members participating ^_^.  So I took a 2 month or so hiatus from HAF.  I really didn't mean to leave that long ... I just couldn't find the energy to really post.  I got a new job doing Tech Support for a ISP (it will remain anonymous for fear of smiting from Whitney because we have our service in her area :P).  Anyway putting in 40+ hours a day fixing people's problems is mentally exhausting.  I think I finally have gotten to the point where I'm able to put some time into HAF.

A little about myself for the new people I have yet to meet.  I am a happy atheist who enjoys spending his time learning.  I am kind of an ass.  Though I've been gone for a few months doesn't mean I haven't learned anything new or changed my mind on issues.  I recently finished Carl Sagan's Demon Haunted World and loved it.  I'm working through a lecture series about early Christianity by Bart Ehrman which is very interesting.  I enjoy learning and seeing new view points.  If I find I don't agree with something I will put the time and effort into researching what I find wrong with it (which is why i said I didn't have the time for HAF ... putting hours into 1 post that will be largely ignored seemed less productive then sleep).  Other then that everything thing is the same.  With the exception we were given an adorable kitten about 2 weeks ago and I got myself a brand new Xbox 360.  I hope everyone has been behaving in my absence.  ^_^

Hi

Looking forward to seeing a new/old face around the place.
If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

Welcome back, if a noob can welcome an ole' timer back, that is.  I admire your stated approach regarding positions you suspect are wrong.  Most will merely trust that initial instinct and look no further into the matter.  I can be accused of failing to do my research at times, but I definitely aspire to your approach.  Better one quality post well researched than a 1000 poorly thought out.

I live right next to Pace and I work in Milton.  I'd say come back and enjoy the beaches ... but they are covered in oil right now :(

There are no rules to welcoming people back ^_^.  I enjoy being right and i'm willing to correct a view when I see it is wrong.  If you aren't willing to correct your views then your views are meaningless, baseless, and pointless not matter how much you cherish them.  Most atheists today would still be theists if we didn't correct our world views.  If you don't look at the possibility of being wrong then what does it mean to be right?

Cool!  Pea Ridge to be exact  ;)   My aunt just retired from Pea Ridge Elementary.  Had an uncle that used to own the Sherwin Williams right there next to the intersection, last time home it would have been directly across 90 from the Whataburger.  Geeze... we have a Whataburger and a Walmart now within a mile of the house.
So are you a native or a transplant?

Damn, small world!

Cool!  Pea Ridge to be exact  lol I don't know where that is.  When I'm in pace I basically stay on 9 mile (90).  I typically just take 10 to work though.  The people in pace drive at their own damn speed and I don't want to make a 25 min trip take 45 due to lights and traffic.  Anyway i'm not technically native though I've lived here for 12 years (i'm 22).  So it just depends on how native you mean.  Middle School, High School and College (PJC not UWF) I would think makes me somewhat native since I grew up here... but I was technically born in Michigan and moved to central florida when I was 1 then up here to P'cola when I was 10.

Fun times.  You are probably lucky you aren't here anymore.   The local economy is dying.  No one wants to go on vacation to a beach covered in oil.  The tourism is gone and the unemployment rate is going up.  I'm glad I work for a national company now.  It could have been real bad for me.

The economy started dying when the base closed actually, '91 I think.  We moved away in '89, I was a freshmen at Pace High.  Still stunned that there's a national company in Milton of all places!
