Personally, I find the idea that Dinosaurs were overgrown lizards to be interesting, and my hunch is that it is the truth. However, I fully admit that I can't prove it, and wouldn't have the first idea about how to.

Also (and this isn't aimed at you personally), I think it would be a good idea for people to remember that this is an internet forum, not a Critique of Pure Reason. I think people should be allowed to suggest an idea without having to provide extensive references or footnotes.

Don't you think it might make more sense to get a feel for this particular forum before declaring how everyone here ought to behave?  I think in this case, it's not that everyone here doesn't understand how forums are supposed to work, it's that you lack an understanding of the nuances of this particular forum.  If you don't like how this forum works, you don't have to participate here.

To be fair I didn't agree with everything TomThumb said, but I think his belief that Dinosaurs are overgrown lizards is thought-provoking and merits further investigation.

I would add that just because a spot on the internet is set up using forum software does not bind it to complying with the wishes of random people who join and start immediately complaining

You have to admit that dinosaurs do bear a strong resemblance to large lizards.

But they don't, not really, not if you look into it at all, which you obviously haven't. They bear more of a resemblance to birds if anything. Dinosaur legs are completely different from lizard legs, for example.

There are lots and lots of different dinosaurs - which ones are you talking about?  I think that's what makes this assertion so absurd to me.  A brontosaurus looks more like an elephant or a giraffe than a lizard to me, even if we're just making casual observations.  A Pterodactyl could just as easily strike a strong resemblance to a bird or a bat than a lizard.  TomThumb's suggestion that this idea is anything close to a theory or at all scientifically sound is literally laughable.

Wow, so you think that maybe the dinosaurs were reptiles just like lizards?!  Holy crap, what a coincidence!

But seriously, the "observation" is a very elementary one.  Modern lizards are diapsids (subclass of reptiles) which reside in a separate infraclass called Lepidosauormorpha and those closer what people would consider "dinosaurs" would be the infraclass Archosauromorpha - it gets much more complicated from there, so simply saying "dinosaurs are overgrown lizards" is scientifically meaningless.
