That's cool that you mom was that ok with it.  It does suck to throw out that safety net but I think it's better to know that you can and do make it on your own.  My mom and step dad sound like your dad watching the preacers on tv nodding there heads. I came out partially by accident and ever since it's been very judgemental,  but I'm glad your mom was so cool with it.
