I believe the pope is coming to my home city of Glasgow, and I can assure you - someone, anyone, is probably in the process of an antic quite similar. My fellow Glaswegians would not let me down!

I don't get why it angers people so much. I think the memo was totally legitimate. If the pope had no irrational points of view, he'd have utterly no problem opening an abortion clinic. It just highlights how absurd the catholic church really is.

I find it pretty amusing myself, but feigning ignorance over why people are up in arms about it is just disingenuous.  And I find it hard to believe that the person who wrote those proposals was being sincere.  I'm a meat eater, but I wouldn't feed my vegan friends something made with animal protein and then act like I couldn't understand why they'd be upset.  I fucking love bacon, and while I don't understand people who don't, I'm not going to pretend they have no reason for their feelings.  Maybe they just don't like the way it tastes, or they once had a pig as a child hood pet.  Obviously, neither the Pope nor many Catholics find the pro-life stance to be irrational, hence why they are upset.  You don't have to agree with the viewpoint to see why it might upset people who do subscribe to it.  

I don't, however, think the Pope should be immune to this sort of satire just because he's a religious icon.  It comes with the territory of being a highly public figure.  If politicians can let it roll off their backs, surely the Pope can turn the other cheek so to speak and knoe that it wasn't intended as anything other than a joke.

I did notice the vatican's response was "he can not be prosecuted" rather than "he is innocent".

Of course I know why they are pissed off. It was more rhetorical than anything else. However, people who don't eat bacon have a rational reason for doing so. If we were to use that example then yes, I'd never dream of forcing a vegan friend to eat it. I would, however, have no issue cooking it in front of them, maybe even with an evil smile  

No one has forced the pope to actually open an abortion clinic so I don't see the parallel. If that happened then I'd be pissed off for the catholic church but that isn't what has happened. Some words were written which weren't meant for the public and some jobsworth got wind of it and sent it to the press. If the catholic church lacks a sense of humour, that's their problem.

The amount of crying over this is hugely disproportionate. Limp MP's are falling over themselves to pander to that twat in a white robe, who as far as I'm concerned, is responsible for the misery of millions of people around the world and should be deported as soon as he lands in blighty.

I agree, nothing should be immune from criticism or satire.
