Hello!  I am a community college student in central Texas who relies solely upon rational internet forums to avoid losing my sanity in the surrounding void of religious irrationality.  Besides my boyfriend, I know absolutely no other atheists, freethinkers, or agnostics in my daily life.  Fortunately, we have plans to move to Austin this summer; once there, we plan on being more active in the Atheist Community of Austin.  I have an unfortunate penchant for horrible humor and terrible puns, but I will make a concerted effort to keep the bad jokes to a minimum.  ;)

When I lived in the South, I had to turn my boyfriends into Atheists!

Actually, he was already an atheist while I still floundered around in some flowery undetermined agnosticism; I was technically an atheist, but I was stuck on the mysticism of the unknown without really facing practical impossibilities.  However, if we ever break up, I will most definitely be forced to turn the next one!  By the way, I love the avatar.  :)

Hello Shine!

Austin sounds like a good move. I'm lucky enough to live in the only other "oasis" I know of in Texas, otherwise I'd move there too.

Welcome to the forum.  :)

Hey Shine, it's awesome that you're on this forum now!  :D

Thanks, Ellie; these pockets of rationality in Texas seem to be few and far between!

Hey, Pinko, good to see you here! lol.  I know that once I actually tried to argue my position out loud with him, I saw that I really had no basis for it.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is likely my favorite book  :headbang:

Hello Shine,

Happy to hear you're moving to Austin and are interested in joining ACA. If you've not already done so, please visit our website at http://www.atheist-community.org to find out about our regular activities. We're also on Twitter and MeetUp, and you'll find links to those on the website.

Will you be a student at UT or one of the other universities in the area? If so, we'll definitely want to talk to you about putting some time and energy into the local campus organizations.

Thanks for your interest in ACA! Looking forward to meeting you this summer.

Ellainix, Alice in Wonderland is definitely on my top ten list of favorite books; I absolutely love how Carroll weaves logic puzzles and riddles into the text.  Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to reread it before watching the movie, but I am determined to fit it in (and hopefully Looking Glass) before it leave theaters.

Jen, nice to (cyber) meet you!  Although I have been following the ACA online via your website, Facebook, YouTube, and such, the only event that I have attended was Dr. Jennifer Whitson's lecture on illusory pattern recognition last month.  I keep intending to make it down to a Sunday meeting at Romeo's, but I am usually buried in piles of reading for school on the weekends.  I have a transfer application pending with UT Austin right now; ever the optimist, I am going on the assumption that I will be a student at UT next fall. :)

I hope we're secretly long-lost twins  :bananacolor:
