Out with the old (our atheist billboard in the Florida Buy-bull haven: Lakeland) ...

In with the new ...

Our (Atheists of Florida) contract for the billboard expired Jan 13 and the "Nebraska Ave. Church of Christ" in Tampa has stepped up to the plate with the above replacement.

It's the same folks that have been obsessively buying continuous anti-atheist/Atheists of Florida newspaper ads ever since they came to our Atheists of Florida meeting in Tampa (must have really scared the living s*** out of them); these people  ...

Here's two more of these ads ... http://www.free2think.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=900

you'd think that if they could afford a billboard they could ford to hire a graphic artist to make one that doesn't look like crap.

This is the usual Church tactics.  They act like a group of 4 year olds when they saw the sign they shit their pants ... threw a temper tantrum and then at the first opportunity took it and tried to make it a, "were so awesome you guys suck nananabobo" sort of thing.  I can see no originality or thought went into this ad.  They cite gen 1:1 as proof then they claim those of us who don't agree (atheists) are fools.  I'd like to get a billboard right near that one and put:

Matthew 5:22 "...But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell."  ~Jesus ... burning church leaders who are dumb since A.D. 33

Or you know something derogatory aimed toward the sign like that.

It's fascinating to see them respond to a simple statement about the existence of atheists with name-calling. Actual biblical name calling.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

ya. they are retarded.

Assuming we could raise the money to do that...we would have to make it look nicer than the churchy sign :)

Thats really not that hard.  We'd actually put effort into what we do.  The churches don't.

Parabola

Another good example of religious nonsense. I hear this passage quite a bit, and they never quote the rest of the verse:

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works; There is none that doeth good." (American Standard Version)

I can see why they didn't mention the whole passage, it's the same reason they don't mention a good part of what is in their book(s): it is ancient, condemning, inaccurate, unenlightened garbage. If the faithful were honest about their passages, they would look like the worst of the fascist leaders -- instead of loving and charitable people.

Calling me a fool is one thing, that is subjective. Saying that I "do no good" is easily refutable, I could demonstrate that assertion to be objectively false inside of one minute. By skipping lightly over the extremely judgmental and clearly false parts of the bible, they hope to hide their shame. I'm glad there are a few of us that will see through sham, and call them to task for it.

Most people who use that quote also conveniently forget that it was directed toward a specific group of people and the Hebrew word translated as "fool" references a person who is void of morality and not related to a context of intellectuality.

After wasting a load of money on self aggrandising nonsense, the church will still try and grab the moral high ground with it's charity. Do they not think that the money would have been better spent feeding the hungry, rather than insulting others?

Also, bible verses, what a great way to convince people who aren't Christian of how right you are.

The Florida atheist group should organize a homeless outreach, draw a lot of media attention, then when asked why they are doing it say that while the church groups are wasting their money attacking non believers you are using your money to help others.

The idea of a church full of people shitting their pants in unison amuses me greatly.
QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

Hehe.. lets see how far reverse psychology can be used to get some good deeds outta the religious  ;)

When there is a huge outpouring of money from the church, release a statement

"We are glad we inspired the local churches to do some charity work, we are very proud of them"

heheh.. I'd bet those words from an atheist group would be like a fist full of pepper up their noses.  lol

Rofl Theists have been using media to try and cow rival groups for millenia. Case in point, the crucifiction of Christ. It was meant to send a message, "Oppose us and suffer." I honestly believe that if Jesus were here right now he would prefer our company over the average Christian. During his life he was part of an underdog minority fighting against a tide of rampant corruption and ignorance much as we are today. It sickens me to see the Catholic church exploiting the faithful the same way the Romans were exploiting them during Jesus's lifetime.
