Everytime I read something like this I can't help but feel filled with a positive energy for the human race. It reminds that despite all of the stupid and backwards people in the world humanity is still on the fast track for greatness.

Can you imagine the possibilities? The great part is this stuff is REAL! Says Honda anyway. I don't see why they would lie about such a thing.

McQ

Yeah, they're real. I got tons of them in my shed out back. Can't give the damn things away!  :)

In all seriousness, these really can and probably will change the world, not just on their own, but also by allowing new technology to broaden other tech improvements. Very exciting stuff.

MINE!

Yeah, I can't help but feel happy about the future when I see how real these things are. Imagine what these will do for computers? It's the new silicon even, this stuff is great!

Yep, these are one of several things that will make computers in the near future unrecognizable to us now as computers. We (hopefully), or our next generation will look back on our iMacs, and power PCs and think, "Wow! They were so quaint!"

Ha! I hope so! The stuff that's being made, it really is the stuff of dreams.

I remember reading that, at the nano scale, the properties of matter gets very odd. For instance, an inert material like gold becomes highly unstable and poisonous. It also loses its conductive properties. If i remember correctly, it has something to do with the surface area of the atomic structure becoming greater than the mass of the atoms held within the atomic structure. This radically alters the properties of most substances. This is still a bit of a worry in the scientific community as they aren't entirely sure of the effects such small particles can have on cells, especially if they can pass through membrane of a human cell without damaging it. Considering you can buy nanotubes off teh interwebz, it is a legitimate worry.

Nano technology is still totally awesome though.  :)

QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

You know. For all the talk of the singularity being near and all, it sure is taking it's sweet-balls time getting here.

It's not supposed to happen in 5 or 10 years or anything, Ray Kurzweil is predicting the 2060s-2080s, doesn't mean things aren't going to change the world in between then, look at the tubes, imagine this stuff being used commercially, you linked the neurogrid earlier, that's pretty amazing and every month there is some article talking about something mindbending. I'll say it again, if you want one of the best predictions of the future watch Ghost in the Shell (call me crazy if you want but I think that's all going to be real in 15-30 years.
