I admire your optimism. We have to some extent become more enlightened over the centuries--it's a race between that and our self-destructive tendencies.

So true. We invented nuclear weapons before we used it for peacetime energy production. We use the war machine to fund new tech, a lot of which simply provides a quicker death, and for larger numbers of people.
