My dog is a cone head

She wouldn't stop scratching her neck and it had created a sore so we had to put a halo collar on her.

I've got one of those things for Jack, my beagle. I feel badly when he has to wear it because I know he doesn't like it, but it's the funniest thing when he eats or drinks from his bowlâ€"the cone completely encompasses the bowl and you just hear lapping or chewing noises. He'll also occasionally walk into a bush and get stuck.

Nope, I searched her to make sure and also gave her a flea bath in case I just didn't see them.  I think she gets dry skin..she's a prissy puppy.

If there isn't an obvious reason for the scratching please consider the following:
1 Has there been a change in diet or environment indicating an allergy?
2 Is there any indication of an ear infection? (Do the sniff test).
3 Is there indication of a dental problem? (Reluctance to eat, odour)
4 Is there indication of a spinal problem? ( Run your thumbs GENTLY along the spine from the skull southward watching for any discomfort).

She could have Spring related allergies...otherwise no.

Her ears smell like dog.

Her teeth look fine and she loves to eat and chew on her rawhides.

She thought that felt good.

I think it might be what they call a hot spot?  Idk, but it is healing now that she can't scratch it and never looked infected (just irritated).  She is going to the vet this week if I am not satisfied with how quickly it is healing.  I think I'm going to start giving her oatmeal baths or something like that to help with her skin...some times of the year it does get dry enough that it looks like she has dandruff.

Too bad they don't understand the cone is because of whatever they are doing...just looks like her feelings are hurt   My Simon (kitty) had his two upper canines removed and the kitty morphine made him hyper so he kept ripping the stitches out of his mouth and packing the wounds with cat food...yuck.  They just look so sad with them on, it's torture!  Chompsky may be neurotic, is she getting up there in age? Wish they could fashion some of those little gloves like the ones they put on newborns that scratch themselves for the animals...hmm, may have something there.

She just recently turned 2.  I did see some little boots in the doggy clothes section of the pet store.  But, I think she'd remove those.  Plus, she also scratches by sticking her chin onto rough surfaces such as the treadmill walking surface.

Well, this is the first time she's done something like this...so I really hope it is just allergies or something like that and not psychological problems

Me too!  Maybe some benedryl?  I had a dog that scratched the hair from one side of his body when left alone, funny how they can have little misfirings too!  Of course, little excentricities make them that much more interesting and lovable, so long as their health is okay.  I am sure the Dallas Spring is the cause of the problem, a lot of people are having trouble this year too!  At work, when I receive the monthly med reports, allergy medications are our top prescription both in cost and number of users, just a part of the climate here.  Hope we will be seeing her smiling soon without the cone, and hope she doesn't poop on the carpet!
