You have to have at least two valences before you can draw any conclusions:
P1: There is a god
P2: God takes care of everyone
C1: I'm cared for.

So, with Stalin, you have to consider more to get a conclusion:
P1: Stalin was an atheist.
P2: Stalin was ruthless.
P3: Stalin was power-hungry.
P4: Stalin used Communist (post-Marxist) dogma as the basis for his government.
P5: Religion removed part of his power base.
C1: Stalin murdered religious leaders and outlawed religion.

That works better.
but:
You can come to the same conclusion without P1:
P1: Stalin was ruthless.
P2: Stalin was power-hungry.
P3: Stalin used Communist (post-Marxist) dogma as the basis for his government.
P4: Religion removed part of his power base.
C1: Stalin murdered religious leaders and outlawed religion.

So, it seems that his lack of belief in god wasn't part of what drove him.

On the other hand, we can also see that belief in god doesn't stop murderers:

P1: Jim Jones believed in the biblical god.
P2: Jim Jones was power-hungry.
P3: Jim Jones held sway over a whole town of people
P4: He felt he was going to loose that power and;
P5: Preferred his death and the death of his followers to that loss.
C1: Jim Jones is a mass-murderer via convincing 913 people to take their own lives.

So, as I see it, belief or non-belief in god means very little. It's the uncritical acceptance of dogma, and the uncritical acceptance of rulership by dogmatic sociopaths that lead to these tragedies.

Saying this to an atheist is like an atheist saying that all christians are pedophiles because a few christians are pedophiles.  

If the implication of you statement were true, then there should be a much larger statistic involving the number of atheists in a population who commit mass murders as compared to the rest of the population.

Hmm. Wouldn't Christians by definition be the only ones who could be persecuted for believing in Jesus? I mean, since, say, Buddhists don't believe in Jesus, they wouldn't be persecuted for believing... Q.E.D.

Of course, certain Christian dominated countries persecute other religious folks. Humans are humans no matter where you are.

No, let me correct you. Jesus said, "My followers will be tortured and sent to prison for believing in me". How did he know this would happen even 2,000 years after his death? Was Jesus a supernatural being that knew the future in advance? Jesus also said, "My word shall be preached to the ends of the earth." How did he know his word that was being told to 12 men would be spread all over the world? I mean, afterall, Jesus was not a well-liked man by the Romans in that time era.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from.. because this is the end of time for Mother Earth.. all we can do is sit back and watch man-kind destroy itself.. Just like GOD said would happen 4,000 years ago!!
