I use them every day (as we all do), but I HATE them. It may sound weird, but seriously, every time I use one (or two or five) I cringe (even on HAF). Every time I read something with unnecessary exclamation points I just hear the same thing in my head:

"Hey!! Look at me!!! I sound like an idiot!!! AAAHHHHH!!!!!"

I can accept that they are necessary sometimes, but they still annoy the shit out of me. But it's just me. I'm not trying to put anyone down. Use them all you want.

Any one else? or am I insane?
When life gives you lemons, make orange juice and let the world wonder how you did it.

I myself cringe whenever someone has to write "hate" in all capital letters.

I don't think you're insane.  I find myself editing the number of exclamation points I use.  Emphasizing everything really means you're emphasizing nothing.

I guess I've never really noticed that one before. Yes, if they are overused, exclamation points can be slightly obnoxious.

However, there is one pet peeve that I have regarding forums. That is, when people substitute the word "loose" for "lose".
Such as, "the Steelers are going to loose the Super Bowl."  ;) )
That one gets me every time. I see it happen entirely too often. And for some reason, it will even make me angry. I want to put my hand through my computer screen and deliver the back of it to their face.

So to answer your question, no you are not insane.
Prayers that need no answer now, cause I'm tired of who I am

I hate them, too. Typically, I use them to poke fun at someone or the point they're trying to make. I try to throw in a couple numbers and a Z wherever I can.  :|

I hate exclamation points in real life and in leisurely (articulate) fun postings, but in stressful work communications I use them constantly so I won't seen so terse and affectless:
Customer Chatty's email "Hi there, here's my file. If there's a problem I will be zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Hope  you have a wonderful day. Keep warm and don't let the bedbugs bite. I dreamt I dwell't in marble halls. My gal is so hot; your gal is doodly sqat. Go Cowboys! Blessings, Chatty Customer.
Often, I just don't reply, but generally I reply: Thanks!  or Looks OK! Wouldn't those replies come off as short (perhaps short-tempered) w/out the exclam!

 :hmm:
There's nothing wrong with ambivalence--is there?

QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

Have any of you ever had it where you can almost hear the exclamation points in peoples voices? Like when people are trying too hard?

No!  They don't bother me at all! :D
