Enjoying the Ice Day!

Ah, my phone rings at 5:15 AM this morning and apparently the city is covered in a thin sheet of ice and I get to stay home today!  Yippee!! It was most exciting for me because my district does not normally close.  It's a small district, about 6 square miles, so the kiddos rarely have a problem getting to school.  (Of course are they thinking about those of us driving in? No!)  My son's always out when it's icey, but how fun we are both out today!!

My thinking is that after the winter break, where we have two weeks off, and Spring break when we are out for a week I always hear people saying thigs like "I couldn't wait to get back to work.  I was so bored!" What? I never, never get bored.  I love being at home, don't experience cabin fever, and can easily self-entertain.  How do people get bored with themselves?  I could easily enjoy life without working.  I always think I'd volunteer, read, watch the tele, take walks, etc.

I don't get bored at home, but work can be very entertaining.

We had a gentleman come by the other day looking to use a restroom (I work in downtown San Jose), and he was convinced that he was a Union soldier from the Civil War. And he was able to back it up with a magnificent knowledge of American history. He impressed me so much I invited him into my office and we conversed with him while I did my work.

A month or so back, I was tasked with finding a new company to rebuild our website. This meant a ton of presentations from different individuals, learning about the current limits of what one can do with a website. I must admit that, despite being online nearly all day, I had no idea what people could do. It was certainly entertaining.

Sounds like you at least have some entertainment at work.  I spend most of my day explaining paychecks, how insurance works and talking to salesmen that call trying to pitch their product.  I guess maybe I need to find something a little more entertaining at work.

I can't remember the last time we had any kind of snow day here in the San Antonio area. It freezes every so often during winter, but never bad enough to stick around.

I hate winter

I hate snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain, ect...

I hate it all. I live in maryland, so we get it every winter. I an an advocate of global warming now haha.

I didn't get an ice day (I just arrived at work 45 min late; which was allowed) but hubby did.

I always find stuff to do when I am home.  There has never been a time when I wished I could work more because I'm bored.  There are some things I do as part of my work that I would also do on my free time, but that part of work isn't work.

I love the snow, too bad London seems cursed. Every year people get all excited about the possibility, and wager massive sums of money on the occasion, but it never happens.

Last winter, from about November to May, we had an average of about 2-3 feet of snow on the ground.
It took until July before it was all gone.
This year, we had a week where it snowed really hard, and since then it's been sunny but extremely cold. The snow is almost gone though.

I hope it stays gone. I get really tired of it. Bring on Summer!

Ditto, and I work from home, so both worlds are mixed.

This does have some downsides, though; hard to engage in leisurely activities without the feeling I should be getting work done, and hard to focus on work sometimes when I know I'm free to have fun. Also, the joy of having day off from work becasue of a holiday or bad weather is meaningless to me, as are weekends; feels like my life is one long, endless work day sometimes

The ice storm was absolutely gorgeous.  We only lost power for two days this time, 2007 was really bad compared to this one.  The devastation that year was enormous to the trees and power lines.  This year we only lost a few branches and some of the weaker trees leaned over.  I have some pics posted for ice storm 2009.
